vera 2 as a switch

just fired up my new vera2.

I was using my vera1 as my router.

Since vera2 only has the 2 Ethernet ports I took the opportunity to buy an N router with more settings and whatnot to fiddle and then just hand the vera off it.

Here’s the fun- the new router has the same number of lan ports as the vera1- and i used them all. But now i also have to hang the vera off the router so now I’m a port short.

So I’m wanting to bridge (or whatever you call it- ) the two Ethernet ports on the vera2 so I can plug my extra device into eth2 on the vera and it will get assigned an IP address on the local network assigned by my new router.

I looked in the advanced network settings on the vera2 (with UI4) and boy is that totally different then on vera1 with UI2. Looks very bare bones and like I can’t do anything?

Can you use the old Vera 1 as a switch (expensive switch) or do you have other plans for it? Hubs are cheap too, I haven’t had a chance to dive into my Vera2 yet, I might be able to help after I get a look this weekend.

Go to the Advanced Tab select Net & WiFi.

Select: Through another gateway on my network. Vera is a switch

Remove one of the devices from your router, connect Vera’s ETH1 to that empty port and the device you just removed to Vera ETH 2 now your router will pass an IP from your router to ETH2. Your now in bridge mode.

JOD.

that’s exactly the setting change I already made- but it didn’t work.

When I look in the advanced config screen to get into the router it shows the lan port still as the default
192.168.81.1 - but maybe that’s irrelevant…

But maybe it needed the reboot i did last night- off to the basement to plug my laptop into eth2 and see what it does…

and a big fat DUH for me- it works now. Not sure why it wasn’t working (or why i didn’t think it was working) before.

michaelk,

I forgot to tell you to hit save. Whoops. FYI, 192.168.81.1 will always get you into Vera when you connect via ETH1.
