I’m trying to get a glass break detector working with vera UI5.
I picked up the utilitech, z-wave glass break detector from lows (built for iris item #0567900, model #gb00z-1). I was able to pair it without problem, and the battery level reports fine.
It defaults to a motion detector by default, and I’ve tried that and the DoorSensor but neither seem to trip when i activating it (using this method: Glassbreak detector test - how to - YouTube i get a red light flash, which i assume means it’s tripping since it doesn’t do it normally).
that seems to use SensorAlarmReport.sensorState of 0 and 255 for not tripped and tripped.
Anyone know if there are any default devices on UI5 that will work with this, or if these values already should work with the MotionSesor and i’m just not tripping it right?

Did you ever get yours working? I had a heck of a time getting mine to pair until I found a blurb in the livingwithiris forums that said to press the button exactly once per second 5 times. If the green light stays on a a couple seconds afterward, you’re done. That’s the reset process. After that it paired right up with the normal pairing process. And like yours, mine also shows as a motion sensor. I’m UI7 (updated) though.
But you said that your test (keys jiggling) was successful. I tried and my red light never came on. I then played a Youtube glass breakage sample and that didn’t work either. So not only do I not know how to get the device to trip, I can’t even seem to figure out how to get the red light to go on. Grrr…
It’s strong vibration then jingling keys. Imagine the sensor above a sliding glass door, and it feeling the impact of someone smashing the glass, then hearing the glass shard falling down. The youtube video is worth a watch.
I never got it to work on vera, I’m in a holding pattern waiting for the smartthing v2 hub launch, i’ve given up on vera for the most part
had hopes that google/nest might do something but looks like they have nothing to offer in the way of a smart hub for the near future, and all the other startups offing z-wave hubs seem to be more smoke and mirrors than actual well engineered and refined products with serious engineering on both hardware and more importantly software
I did actually get the dangling keys thing to work. Vera Support was able to change m icon to something resembling a glass break detector instead of a motion sensor. And I’m now in the process of assisting Support by supplying them some logs for possible future inclusion as a supported device. We’ll see how far that gets.
Best of luck with ST. I hope it works well for you. I think I’ll stick with Vera for awhile and see how things shake out.
That would be great, especially since UI7 is starting to sound reasonable from the release notes, I’ll keep an eye out for it and give it one last ditch effort if they can get it working.
Just set them as door sensors and they will trip for ~10 seconds when triggered.
Not sure how to make them show as glass break sensors in the UI, but don’t really care.
Was giving UI7 one final shot before jumping ship for SmartThings V2, but may end up sticking around, UI7 isn’t as bad as it was last year at all (so far, only 1 day in).
