Using X10 Devices with Vera

I can’t tell just by looking, but since there’s no link to any kind of User Manual at the link you posted, achwalb, I must conclude this device is oriented toward making some Z-Wave “event” or “scene” happen in response to an X-10 command.

Note the old school X-10 “house code” and “unit code” wheels, indicating that the Wayne Dalton X10 Bridge is designed as an X10 receiver, while the “Scene 1”, etc. buttons suggest it activates Z-Wave scenes in response.

I’d love to know more, but for now, I suspect it’s a slightly overpriced stopgap device for X10 users who are not ready to make the complete switch over to Z-Wave?!

Bummer, I was trying to figure out what it did… I was hoping that it truly was a bridge… Seems simple to solve Do we know if the 2412N works?

Just the U and the S I believe

Correct, only the 2412S or 2412U … that is, either the serial or USB version of PLM “modem”.

I just ended up purchasing a USB PowerLinc 1132U from an Amazon reseller - selling it as a 2412U - while I wait to hear back on the return, is there a chance that I can get this to work with my Vera?

Sorry for the delayed reply here… but the answer is “very doubtful”. Hope you got your money back. Heck, it’s RIDICULOUSLY DIFFICULT (ahem, MCV) getting results with the 2412U (or in my forsaken case, the 2412S with expensive, required Future Technologies USB-to-serial cable).

Let us know how things turn out. I’m taking a month or two off from TRYING (ahem, MCV) as I have since August to get Vera to play with Insteon. So many hurdles, I got sick of it, but surely there’s light at the end of that tunnel.

So far with testing X-10 I am having decent luck getting my X-10 lights to turn on/off from vera. Though, I am having no luck setting DIM levels. Also, the status of the X-10 lights is always OFF.

We REALLY need to be able to set the X-10 DIM level (0 through 32) in vera. Otherwise this is all a waste of time.

Hi,
I noticed that this thread seems to have died sometime in 2009.
I was wondering if there is still interest in X10 support via the Vera?

I have the PLM attached and have had poor results. The response time is very slow (10 seconds+) and the PLM module needs to be reset constantly.

Has anyone had any good luck or advice?

Thanks,
Peter.

I have the 2412u that I’ve used with my Vera 1 and Vera2.

The response time for me is about 2-3 seconds. Not as fast as the old X10 CM11A.

I’ve never had to reset mine.

I have a hybrid X10 and Zwave Home Automation setup that Vera handles just fine. I built out all the x10 setup in 2005 (ceiling fan crontrol with modules that separate lighting/dimming from the fan motor control, appliance modules mainly for power cycling, x10 security modules, x10 sensors)

I’m still running Misterhouse on an low powered Atom Server because I haven’t been able to port over all the functionality that I need like:

*Internet Connectivity Monitoring… powercycling my cable modem when it’s down for more than 15 minutes.
*X10 Wireless Sensor Detection
*X10 Wireless Sensor Relaying
*Complex Scene Logic
*Complex Triggers
*Complex Timers

Vera is like an Iphone and works with the basic stuff that I need it for. Misterhouse is like an android and I can tweak it until I break it.

I’m kinda interested in using the x10 motion sensors. They’re cheap and so much more straightforward than the CM9000s I’m using.

How do the RF X10 items work with this interface? Same slow response? Is it 2 way reporting, I assume?

Can someone confirm the device I need to purchase for X10?

says…
Connect a SmartLabs 2413U (works only with latest UI4 firmware) PowerLinc Modem to one of Vera’s USB ports.

Is the 2413U the latest, greatest model I need to get?

How many X-10 motion sensors do you want? I have a box full of new ones I bought, and never used. I have a ton of modules and other doodads as well (phase bridges, controllers, RF handheld remotes, IR learning remotes, all kinds of “stuff” you name it), most of it is new, some of the items have been removed and replaced with Zwave devices, but they all work.

Maybe we need a “for sale” section as well
