OK. Just getting started planning to educate a house we’re buying. It has a 10 year old M&S intercom and music system. I was trying to think of ways to upgrade that and use it with home automation but then it occurred to me I could just replace all those intercoms with something like the Launchport Wall station (LAUNCH | Wireless Charging & Mounting System for iPad - Vehicle, Wall, & Table | Formerly Known as LaunchPort | IPORT) and have a tablet in each room that can be used for anything I like. Question is, does anyone know of a wall mount with charging capability that can be powered using the existing wiring for the intercom? I’m assuming it’s 4 conductor 22 gauge based on the installation docs I can find online for this intercom system.
I can’t help you with that but I also would love to know how to do it because I also thought about it to my own house!
If the other end of the intercom wiring is in a suitable location, you might be able to splice it into your power supply wiring, connecting the transformer at the far end (after the power has been converted to low voltage). Most power supply wiring only uses two wires.
AC – Transformer – Transformer Wire (Cut) – Intercom Wire – (Cut) Transformer Wire – Tablet
This should work with a “home run” arrangement. Might even work in a daisy chain if the power supply has suitable amperage.
This assumes you’d be using WiFi for network connection.
I guess I could have read the LaunchPort web page a little more carefully first:
