I read people are using the Ecobee sensors as a PIR to turn on lights with Smartthing. Can we do that with Vera? Seems that once the sensor is tripped, it stays tripped for quite awhile.
If you’ve got an Ecobee3 thermostat, you could use the presence sensors to turn on lights, but they wouldn’t come on the second you walked into the room. They would also stay on for a period of time after you left the room. Not sure I’d use them to turn on a light, but I am using them to turn off lights in the event they’re left on. I have also incorporated them into my presence detection in Vera, along with ping sensors and what’s referred to as “wasp in a box” logic…
@Mike ,
Can you tell me the steps you did to achieve and use the ecobee sensors to trigger lights turning off?
Thanks.
In certain rooms, I am using the ecobee sensor, along with ping sensors, to detect if the person that belongs to that room is home. If the person who belongs to that room isn’t home and the presence sensor is off, I turn the light off after it’s been on for a short period of time. Five minutes is a safe bet. It give you time to get into the room and move around enough to trigger the sensor before it shuts the light off on you.
