I wanted to put my Vera2 battery pack to use when I am not using it for adding devices to Vera. I had a matching barrel connector to the one used by the charger (so that was free) and picked up a female cigarette lighter receptacle for $2.77 at my local electronics store. The box for the cigarette lighter looed opened (as is most stuff at Fry’s electronics) and looked like it could be missing a strain relief piece for where the cable would come out. No worries though because the barrel connector fit snugly into the hole where the strain relief would have been.
It works well with the car charger of your choice and charged from 16% to 100% in about 3 hours. I haven’t tried it from a dead state yet, but I don’t think it will be a problem.
Kind of an obvious project, but I thought I’d post because I liked how the barrel connector fit to make it a one piece accessory. Since my iPhone was left in a hot car the battery life has plummeted, so this makes for a good backup.
