Use Your Vera2 Battery Pack to Charge Your Phone

I wanted to put my Vera2 battery pack to use when I am not using it for adding devices to Vera. I had a matching barrel connector to the one used by the charger (so that was free) and picked up a female cigarette lighter receptacle for $2.77 at my local electronics store. The box for the cigarette lighter looed opened (as is most stuff at Fry’s electronics) and looked like it could be missing a strain relief piece for where the cable would come out. No worries though because the barrel connector fit snugly into the hole where the strain relief would have been.

It works well with the car charger of your choice and charged from 16% to 100% in about 3 hours. I haven’t tried it from a dead state yet, but I don’t think it will be a problem.

Kind of an obvious project, but I thought I’d post because I liked how the barrel connector fit to make it a one piece accessory. Since my iPhone was left in a hot car the battery life has plummeted, so this makes for a good backup.

That’s too funny. At least it’ll get some use in that config… 8)

Hahaha im starting to like all the hacks and mods that people are bringing to the forum! Great post Shady!

@shady,

Feature Request: Y-splitter, so I can be on an extended support call while going around the house doing inclusions. :wink:

Seriously, I did add ‘Hardware Projects’ to the wish list for new boards.

Hmmm Hardware Projects… Good name! I second that!
