It breaks compatibility with Automator.app which I use extensively. Is it really as bad as he says it is?
I’m up with Vera 2. Things seem to be OK.
The thermostats, the dimmers and the cameras are not working on automator.app
Yup, also most devices that show only text (temperature sensors, TED 5000 plugin, etc) will likely render incorrectly.
I am working on an update, more info will be posted in the Automator.app forum. You may be able to control these devices in UI5 with the current Automator.app version by going to the “Control” tab (click on the device on the iPad, select the blue icon on iPhone). You mileage may vary on this though.
UI5 quite significantly changes how device displays are rendered.
ERROR Cannot communicate with your unit.
What’s up with that?
Does anyone have a url that can be used directly from the dashboard?
I tried it again a couple times and finally got it to work. ???
I don’t like UI 5. I have to sift through a bunch of pages to do what I could do on one screen in UI 4. :-X Is there a way to have the old UI with the new firmware?
@S-F, would it help if you went through and pinned all your device / scenes so they showed up on on the dashboard?
I really like the changes to UI5 personally… I had a bunch of scenes that were launched automatically that were junking up my dashboard on UI4.

Sadly, the firmware is UI5. That is where all of the changes came into place and bug fixes (though more need to be fixed!).

No kidding. Still no weekly scheduling for locks. WTF is that? I wish they’d squash bugs instead of trying to reinvent the wheel with the UI. This new UI is a PITA. Maybe that’s good because I’ll spend less time screwing around with Vera and more time doing other things.
It would be better if the UI was designed to be skinnable. That way users could design their own UI appearance, then the MCV people could concentrate on the functionality more?
I’m going back down to UI4. Too many things aren’t working. I think the “Ping Sensor” plugin screwed with my UI startup. Data wouldn’t load on the UI or on iVera.
Going back down using http://download.mios.com/firmware/wl500gP_Luup_ui4-1.1.1362-1.squashfs.
Terrible experience with UI5, overall disappointing with Micasaverde. 7 years ago I had a 40 node x-10 system. Scenes worked and it operated the climate, pool pump, sprinklers reliably. Got rid of that house and left it as was. After not needing any automation due to traveling - relocating I decided to go with z wave for the next project. I installed Vera in March to supplement the Structured Wiring panel in the new house. I only have 5 nodes including a trane thermostat. A few days before the update to UI5, my thermostat died. It just went blank. Trane sent me a new one which is completely redesigned newer version. With UI5 I could never remove the old thermostat, could not remove cameras, then after 3 hours got the cameras removed and then another 4 hours and couldn’t add the camera back in, no way no how. Couldn’t get the zwave light to flash to pair the new thermostat. So thanks to the forum, i downgraded to UI4, instantly have my Foscam cameras back, pan tilt and all. Now somehow I still cannot get the thermostat to pair. It has my old thermostat from the restore. Which when I delete it, it comes back and cannot communicate with the device. The day night of the UI4 is much nicer than the UI5. The proposed look of the UI5 looked good. The release is bad. How can this be a “consumer” device when SSH and jumping through hoops is necessary to get stuff configured. I have been incorporating structured wiring, networks and automation into my homes and businesses for 20+ years and have been involved with design of large government sensor / camera systems. And yet Vera is difficult to configure, seems to have no support other than free advice from forum members (which I appreciate) More and more companies are using the good will of unpaid “experts” to provide their tech support through forums. I am not a happy camper and can’t fathom how an upgrade can be wrought with this many problems, as evidenced by the forum. Did anyone actually test this prior to release. Were the plugins tested? Is anyone else upset at having to use 10-12 hours to try and make an update work and the only solution is a complete reset and restore? Now my Vera just WILL NOT go into pair mode.
I see that the V2 Upgrade Link now lists .236 as the version to upgrade too. Has things been fixed with respect to .233 ? Just wondering as I have tryed to upgrade from U4-.1362 to UI5 -.233 twice and have got bit both times. Just don’t want to go through the ordeal of down grading again.

It did.
It causes the Lua/Luup engine to go into a “perma-restart”. At the very end of the initiation function for the Ping plugin, there’s a call to “Reload” the engine if the variables aren’t set properly (for reasons I do not know, nor have investigated, they aren’t).
Since these variables never get set, the “Reload” call is made every time the Ping plugin is initialized, which it is every time the Lua/Luup engine is reloaded! So, you’ve got a few seconds on every restart to either upload an I_Ping*.xml file that has the reload call commented out, or you need to delete the plugin before the loop re-starts.

I agree with SF. I wish that when you minified a section ( scenes, marketplace, toolbox etc) in UI4 that it would stay that way on the next login.
Yesterday i upgraded to UI5 and then after just 5 mins i downgraded back to UI4, where everything works.
Sucessfull upgrade here.
I like the new dashboard!
But I dont know why the VERA U14 firware section did not inform me about the new firmware (it could not even find the new firware for the U14. But I could upgrade the firmware from MiOS

If you are referring to upgrading to UI5, it is because UI5 is still not fully production ready. Even though it is provided on Vera 3 and Vera 3 lite. So if you are running UI4, it will not inform you of a UI5 upgrade and only upgrades that involve UI4.
