When you turn off a light that was dimmed to 35%, it will turn back on at 35% if you manually use a switch to turn it on…
Is there any way to reset a light switch so it comes on at 100% (or any other level) without “dimming” it back up to 100% before turning it off (or programmatically turning it on the next time at 100%)? I’d like to reset the level without being able to see the light go back up to 100%.
I’m wondering if there’s some way to update the “last load” value or something like that. These are GE 12724 switches FYI.
Try setting parameter 5 to 0 (default is 1),
You do this in the device options tab by adding a configuration
Change the variable to 5
Set the data size type to 1 byte dec
Chance the value to 0
Then hit save
In the documentation for the jasco dimmer setting parameter 5 to 0 tells the switch to ignore the preset dimmer value. Not 100% sure what that means but might give you the behavior you want.
Parameter 5 tells the switch whether or not to honor the dimming start level sent as part of a dimming command from Vera.
@CasaUser is trying to circumvent the switch’s previous dim level memory feature. This is not a configurable option on this switch and Parameter 5 will not impact this behavior.
You could probably do something sneaky things to reset it to 100% at opportune times.
For example schedule a scene to briefly turn on the light to 100% then turn it back off, like in the middle of the night, or when you are in Away mode.
Also if you have scenes that are turning off the light set it to 100% first then turn it off will set the memory back to 100% (if you don’t mind it going to 100% briefly before turning off). But if folks are interacting with the switch directly it is just tricky to get the behavior you want.
The cooper dimmers, also don’t have a setting for this, but they do have a manual override where you can hold down the switch for 2 seconds when turning on the light which will trigger it to go to 100% instead of the last dimmer level.

Unfortunately, the Coopers do this badly (IMO). I own both Coopers and Leviton, when you push and hold the Levitons, they will go 100% but NOT lose the previous dim level. So when you turn them on next time, they will go to the previous set dim level.
When you push and hold the Coopers, they basically change the previous dim level to 100%.
You can configure the leviton dimmers (on the dimmer itself) to either return to the last dim level or a preset value each time it is turned on. I love this feature.
