I saw and old thread form 2012 (I don’t think this lock existed in 2012), but I have the same issue. I’m surprised a known-issue from 2012 is still an ongoing problem in 2014.
The lock seems to auto-relock in about 5 to 10 seconds, not even the claimed default 30 seconds.
So, if there is any delay shutting the door, you may bang the deadbolt on the door jamb.
I tried adjusting the time to 180 and 255 in the advanced settings on the web site, but nothing is changing.
I don’t want to disable auto-relock, because I want to be able to rely on the lock eventually auto locking if someone forgets to lock it on their way out, but I would like to delay it for 3 or 4 minutes, so we can unload a carload of groceries before the lock auto-relocks again. Even 30 seconds would be better than the way it’s working now.
Also, the manual says you should be able to adjust the time from 5 to 30 seconds even without the network adapter, but the menu had no options other than enable and disable. How do you change the relock time using the keypad?
This is a brand new lock and brand new Vera Lite I just got this week.
The web interface for controlling this lock is so bad once you get into the advanced settings. Is there a better way to do this?
I want to be able to rely on the lock auto-relocking without requiring Internet access and third party servers, so I want to use the built-in auto-relock and not a web based control for this function.
I would also like to be able to do the same thing. I am okay with creating a scene to do this if that’s how it can be done but not sure how to go about it. If anyone knows please chime in. Thanks
Everything I’ve read about the locks internal auto-lock system is it’s just not reliable. The recommend way to handle the re-lock is with Vera. Either using PLEG or Vera Scenes. I’m using PLEG, and it has worked perfectly.
It is very reliably auto-relocking after 10 seconds. So, it works, but 10 seconds is way too quick. I would like to increase it to at least 30 seconds and preferably around 3 minutes.
Who supports this function? Yale or Vera? There are basically no instructions on on how to adjust the time. Very poorly designed.
How can I get them to fix this?
Doesn’t PLEG and Vera scenes rely on your Internet connection and third party servers controlled by others being up and running every time you use your door lock?
If so, I cannot rely on this.

Again, PLEG is your best option IMO.
?? From inside the houses network?? NO, Internet connection is NOT required. From outside the home’s network?? Then YES, you need Internet access to interact with anything controlled by Vera.
I had tried unplugging my cable modem and I wasn’t able to access the vera lite while inside, so I thought that means it only works when you have an active Internet connection.
If PLEG functions for controlling internal devices still work independent on reaching out to the Internet, then I will look at that.
I don’t like the idea of relying on software from a small developer who may just randomly shut down the service anytime.
It is still pretty poor that the built-in functions of the lock don’t work as advertised and the manufacturer is OK with this and is not fixing it.

How are you “accessing” vera? Most ways require internet in order to connect. However, your existing scenes and stuff will continue to function, even without internet access. Eventually your Vera time clock will be off if it cannot synchronize its internal clock with a time server, but Vera will continue to function.
See above. My Vera1 never had a connection to the mother ship (but does to the internet itself).
You do realize that Yale and Miscaverde are two different companies?
My cable modem and router are separate. I’ll try it again and see if I can figure out how to get PLEG installed and configured to increase the auto-relock time.
Instead of just having the door lock based only on time, is it possible to install a door sensor that coordinates with the lock so that the door locks automatically when the door is shut and never locks automatically when the door is open?
I used to have a Sunnect lock that could tell when the door was open or closed so I never had the issue of the door trying to lock while the door was open and then having the deadbolt slam into the door jamb when someone shuts the door.
I didn’t mind that the door locked after 5 seconds on the Sunnect because it only locked when the door was actually closed and that was useful.
With the Yale, the quick auto relock is a hassle because it extends the bolt even when the door is wide open which is worse than useless.
It seems like my Internet connection reliability got worse after I got the Vera Lite. I don’t know if this is just a coincidence or if there is some interference between the Vera and my wireless router since they are next to each other.
I’m using PLEG to do exactly that with my doors. If the sensors detect the door opened, I have them set to wait 5 minutes after it’s shut again to lock them.
I don’t see how the Veralite could be interfering with your internet connection at all, unless it’s creating network congestion somehow.
Which sensors work best with the Yale locks and PLEG?
Also which iPhone apps work best?
I have tried several apps and I have had then all to be very unreliable.
Sometimes one app will not work and I will download another and that one works when the other doesn’t. Very buggy and I am in the house on the local wireless network.
I tried Vera Mobile last week and it worked for a while and stopped then I tried Veramate and it worked until today.
I just tried operating the lock through the micasaverde website today and I couldn’t control the lock there either. So, I started walking towards the Vera Lite to see if it would work if unplugged it and plugged it back in, but on the way to it, I heard the door lock finally open and close maybe 30 seconds after I had sent the commands through the PC. There is red error on the page that says:
Failed at: Please wait! Getting the name.
I tried the Veramate app again and it still isn’t working. It worked fine a few days ago.
If you’re using Vera and PLEG, the sensor doesn’t have to work with Yale locks. So any sensor that you can interface with the Vera. For what I described, I already had door sensors for my alarm system and used those. I used [url=http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=109&cp_id=10918&cs_id=1091804&p_id=10795&seq=1&format=2]Products no longer Available on another door in my house that didn’t already have a sensor and it’s worked well so far.
I don’t have an iphone so I can’t really speak to that specifically, but I use [url=https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/homewave/id545422004?mt=8]HomeWave on the App Store on my ipad. There is a slight learning curve on it, but once I got it setup it’s been very quick and reliable.
Your last error almost sounds like there is some sort of configuration issue between vera and your lock. Maybe the connection to the lock from vera isn’t very good, causing it to not have completed configuration and also causing your delays when it was working.
I would run a network heal on the vera to see if it might help.
OK, I will look into Homewave and order those door sensors on Monoprice.
Maybe with PLEG, Homewave and the door sensors all installed and configured, this system will be working well enough to be worth keeping.
Getting more complex than I was planning.
I’m going to try these suggestions, but I’m sure many others would have sent the equipment back for refund by now. This is probably why Apple is jumping into this market to see if they can make these types of things more user-friendly for the mass market who will expect it to “just work.”
I keep getting the error shown in the screen shot.
It same sometimes be fixed be unplugging the Vera Lite and plugging it back in, but I am having to do this several times a week and that is way too often.
I reset the power to the Vera Lite and it’s working again. I’ll see if it lasts for more than 1 or 2 days.
I also downloaded the Homewave app and it works better than the others, but it is kind of difficult and tedious to set up. Feels like it is unfinished. No easy setup wizard to follow and you must go to the website for step by step instructions because I couldn’t figure it out through the app itself.
The appearance of the app is very dated-looking and there is way too much customization and tweaking of box layouts needed just to get it working.
It’s nice to have customization available, but it would be better if had a usable default layout already to go that would detect your devices and create default buttons and you could change it if you cared to instead of having to build it yourself.
Unfortunately, the more attractive-looking and more user friendly apps for iOS I’ve seen are much worse because they are not being updated and many just don’t work at all with current iPhones and newer devices. At least this works after you figure out how to get it set up. Lots of room for improvement in all these apps.
