I have ordered a few Duwi Everlux switches and dimmers based in their spec and performance.
I have one doing under-cabinet lighting in the kitchen, so the switch isn’t visible.
My issue is that the face plates aren’t big enough to properly fit surface mounted plastic boxes that I have found. The Everlux can effectively slide inside the box, rather than sitting flush over the edges if that makes sense.
I have bought two more now for wall switches, and it won’t go down well with the wife if they look weird over the boxes.
I have a very old property so the electrics are mostly surface mount. In time I’m looking to chase them into the walls. Are there plastic boxes for in the wall so that the signals can get through rather than metal ones.
i thought a picture says a thousand words, and you’ll see what i am trying to stop happening:
this is a box i bought already, but doesn’t fit. Are the screwfix ones going to be the same?
I reckon you’re going to run out of luck here… those switches are not UK sized… best suggestion I can do is to measure the switches, and then use google to see if you can find any pattress boxes in that size
They are UK spec in the sense of fitting on a UK wiring system, but those dimensions, well, you have seen for yourself that they are no-where near that. But it’s a good idea to talk to Vesternet… they may know different.
If I can surface mount them, it won’t be too bad, providing I can dig everything into the wall I can spread the plaster over a bit to fill the gap.
Is the z-wave signal affected by having a metal box behind it? (for some of the solid walls, not stud wall where I can use the plastic cavity ones)
Thanks.
The switch fronts are plastic so the signal gets out that way. They’re all designed to work in a metal patress box, so it is fine.
Looks like I am going to have a similar problem with a plastic dry lining box (These are the ones that go in to the plasterboard walls not surface mount).
This is the second Duwi module I have bought, don’t think I will be buying anymore.
The first one I did was in the kitchen in a 35mm metal back box, I had a gap all round and had to fill in with poly filler.
Not sure what to do with this plastic dry lining box? Maybe I can cut down the lip a bit, as I was planning to put this second Duwi module in a stud wall not a block wall.
