UI4 adding users ??

Okay, looks like the local users I had defined in UI2 did not make it through the upgrade. So when I click on Users in the UI4 interface it tells me an admin needs to login at mios.com and make changes on control panel.

So i go to mios.com login there, try to add users.
That would be the area in blue just under the serial number of my unit that says

  • Add user

So I click that
and get
Serial: 10155
myMiOS username:
User’s email address:
This must match the user’s contact information.

Okay, so if I put in a new user’s name, it says “user not found”
If I put in my current mios.com name, it says “user already exists”

Some days simple things confuse me. But this has me baffled.

I want to create some local users with different email / pager addresses like I had on UI2 so that depending on the event, mail is sent to different people.

The online docs at docs.mios.com for users are of no help.

This page:
http://docs.mios.com/doc.php?language=1&manual=1&platform=0&page=users

shows a green page of user accounts. I can’t find that menu anywhere.

What am I missing?

I have the same problem.

Okay, so I am not crazy… well nevermind that statement… ::slight_smile:

Hopefully its the fact that I don’t have a clue in UI4 and trying to RTFM didn’t seem to help. Hopefully a UI4 veteran can answer this one.

I did find an explanation about the difference in ‘users’ between old and new versions.
Still doesn’t explain how to add local users or “notification users”

It appears that the only way you can add users is if the user has a myMIOS account. Not sure why this is.

You can create multiple accounts if you go to MiOS and fill in the new user account info.

Then try the Add user option at myMIOS.com

Yes its not at all logical and when we first started using cp.mios.com it also tripped me up. I complained that it was counter intuitive but they never changed the logic.

I tried that and got the same errror that AndrewM got… See his screen shot below.
Thats why I did the original posting. I couldn’t create a local user. Did reading and it appeared that I needed to add a user when logged into cp.mios.com. So then I went there and got the same error that he did.

So to take it a step further, I figured I wouldn’t even login at cp.mios.com. Just try to create an account at that level (login.php page allows you to login or create account. So without logging in, i do fill in the blanks on the create account section. I get ‘invalid security code’ , okay I am no idiot most times… but I know I have put in the same code displayed (yes i matched the upper/lower case).

So just how do you create extra accounts?

Create a second mios account with different email address etc without logging in with the original admin account you created to start with. Once this account is created, you can log back in with your admin account and then add the newly created user account to the admin account once you are logged in again.

Okay… that worked. I assume that there is something in the code that at least detects you have a vera on your home net before it just lets you create an account without any authentication up front? It just goes against anything I have ever done before.

Thanks for the details strangely! I started reading your instructions and like yourself it just seemed counter intuitive. I was waiting for some extra catch, like “now hit return while standing on your head” to make it work ;D

I would swear I did this last night but then again its all getting blurry.

No idea either, I had the exact same thing happen to me (also thought I’d tried it) and I looked dumb despite the stupid counter intuitive method used to do this.

Hi,

Seems like this process is not working as intended. We will add a red or bold note on the page with the procedure to add a new user. Thanks for pointing it out!
