I have 5 Schlage z-wave tstats in my home. Up until today, they all worked well. The display on one has gone “black”. By that, I mean that the display still lights up when a button is pressed, but all of the LCD pixels are dark. Behind the “darkness”, I can just barely see numbers and words, but it is very hard to see them.
Is this unit defective? Is there a way for me to reset the display so that it is legible again?
Can you try and remove power from the tstat? If that does not work, my guess is that the unit is defective.

Thanks Garrett. I pulled the unit off of the wall and then popped it back on (several times), with no change. I even tried to adjust the contrast by carefully pressing the right sequence of buttons, but it didn’t help.
Time to call Schlage…
I sent an email to Schlage customer service. I heard back from them in one day. They apologized for the problem and promised to send me a new unit immediately! Great responsiveness – I was really impressed.
