I’m running UI4 on a Vera 2 and I now have a second device sitting on my shelf that requires UI5 to run (MiniMote was the first; I now have the Filtrete wifi thermostat as well). I was looking at the Wiki and saw a couple of private betas since the last “official” release of UI5 and one of them (1.5.401) has a ton of fixes in it. Does anyone know if this is going to be general release anytime soon? Any of the beta testers or other experts know if any of these fixes are worth waiting for?
On a related note I remember a thread or posting within a thread giving a suggested procedure to follow when upgrading from UI4 to UI5 (besides the obvious backup; it was more like things to remove because they don’t upgrade correctly, like the Foscam plug-in or something). I tried searching but can’t find it. If anyone knows the thread or Wiki I’m thinking of and can point me to it I’d be grateful.
There were numerous post on the migration from UI4 to UI5 and most are probably not relevant with the subsequent firmware and plugin releases that have occurred. There was a change to the plugin for camera between 5 and 7 I remember correctly.
I suggested you remove cameras prior to upgrading; especially seeing there is specific pluging and improved methods for the inclusion of cameras in UI5.
Now, ui5 does run well on a Vera 2 however, improvements can be obtained by utilizing a USB swapfile and USB logging.
Of course, backup and conduct firmware upgrade.
however depending on the scale of your system, I still believe the best option is:
Remove all z-wave device.
Reset to factory default.
Perform upgrade.
Set up swapfile and set log to USB.
Include z-wave devices (get this stage correct first) and only small incremental adding of devices, do not try to add to many together and be patient waiting for screen refreshes to completed.
Add other devices/plugin one by one. As above, be patient.
In doing so, you should get the best performance from your system and the cleanest setup.
