Just noticed this popping up on Amazon. Pre-order and no spec details but it seems to be the new V2.
The link goes to a Samsung Smart Things Hub $99.00
Correct. From what I’ve been told it’s the new v2. Supposedly with support for local unconnected use vs the current cloud model v1. The v1 of the hub has a different case design.
I got excited and thought is was a new Vera release. Oops.
I don’t get it.
If it hasn’t been made readily apparent after years of decent but quirky products, a limp marketing effort, and haphazard updates that Vera was only ever going to be on the fringes of wherever the market for home automation is moving, then I don’t know what to tell you.
Mine, and quite a few others, main reason for using Vera is the fact it can still fully function without an Internet connection. Granted, you can’t remotely access your setup, but the box will locally still control the house as normal. Most other solutions, including SmartThings v1 do not offer this (to me crucial) option or do not have sufficient device support.
Since my HA has gotten to the point where it makes my live a lot easier and although I would not be lost without it, I do would sorely miss it. So I am keeping an eye on plan B solutions. Ones that offer extended device support and can run without an internet connection. Meaning Homeseer, OpenHab and now hopefully SmartThings v2.
I saw the news about the SmartThings Hub Update this morning. I’m still waiting to hear the more official announcement with all the features and specs (it says it will be in the next few weeks). It will be interesting to see if they list enough specs to see if it’s beefier than the VeraEdge.
It has caught my eye because while my system is stable now on UI7 (except for the Multisensor 6), I have always wanted direct ZigBee functionality from the box too since there are more and more ZigBee devices
…It would be a good time for Vera to announce their VeraPlus…
