Temperature monitoring out of Z-wave range

Hi - I am brand new to Vera, but have some experience with home automation. I have an outbuilding which is out of Z-wave range. It’s also on a sub-panel, which makes me think that Insteon/X10 may have trouble.

The outbuilding has power and Wifi/Ethernet connectivity, both to Vera and the Internet.

I’d like to monitor temperature and humidity in the outbuilding. How can I get this data back into Vera?

If you add one or more Z-Wave devices between the out building and the Vera, they ought to act as repeaters to get the signal all the way there and back. But power and weather might make that solution difficult.

Edit: another possibility is to use a Nest thermostat, which communicates to the cloud, so Z-Wave connectivity isn’t needed.

You could add another Vera(Lite) in the outbuilding and bridge the systems. I’ve done exactly this. It’s not an expensive option in the global scheme of things and brings great flexibility in terms of future expansion if you should want to put more Z-wave devices out there… Door/window detectors, etc.

Or use the a 1 wire system and use temperature sensors and humidity sensors and have it integrate into vera.

Use this plugin for integration into vera:
