"Take over" Registered Device

can i just “take over” a z-wave device on a nother vera without going trough all the delete proceedures first ?

the idea is to manually reset the device locally and then just insert it to the new vera.

the “old one” would then loose connection to it ?

I can exclude with a unknown controller to the device?
That is interesting!!

The reason is i have a million triggers, delete the device will delete them too along with all the luup i have written.

That is interesting!![/quote]Any Z-Wave controller can exclude any Z-Wave device. It’s an important feature. Otherwise, what would happen when your controller died? Not all controllers can be backed up like Vera.

however, does this not pose a security risc if any controller can just take over any device ?
all i would need to hack a house is a car battery and a vera :slight_smile:

well i defently will do some research on that …

Theoretically yes. But Vera has to within a few feet of the device for it to be able to include/exclude it. And you also have to physically be able to push a button on that device to get it into include/exclude mode. For that you would have to break into the house. For eg a Schlage lock to be included or excluded you need to know the 6 digit programming code as well. Which is unique for each lock. Not saying it is impossible, but it’s definitely not easy.

Yeah right i forgot the pair button :slight_smile:

But the “few feet” thingy is simply a faq text, my vera is in the basement and i Never did carry a device there to pair it, always pair via mesh with no issues at all, exept for a fibaro door sensor once.

well i defently will do some research on that …[/quote]It’s not really a risk. Any controller can exclude any device, but the “thief” would need physical access to the device.

Assuming that they did this, they could incorporate the device into their own network, but they still would not be able to access your Z-wave network. It’s not a big distinction. But the important detail is that, there is not a way for anyone to gain access to your devices without physical access to the device itself. If they can’t push the light switch, they can’t exclude/include it.

If Z-Wave devices did not have this feature and the controller died, it would be necessary to discard and replace every Z-Wave device on the network. I would not be happy about this.
