Any idea how we can find out the manufacture of this bad boy? HomeSeer WFTT07
Info attached
Thanks, will see if I can find a distributer in the US, really like the case with speakers
No Mic though.
I just got the WFTT07 from HomeSeer store on Amazon for $169
Standard Android tablet as far as I can tell (not really well versed).
Cons:
- No mic and camera as S-F pointed out. I was hoping to create a simple intercom system. Also, the camera can be used in Imperihome to show the screen when you walk near it.
- The touch for scrolling is a little sensitive and can’t find an adjustment…it selects when it should scroll. The kindle fire and Micosoft Surfaces just has a better touch access.
- Screen angle is better viewing from above like standing or sitting when it is on a desk. rather than eye level with the device (like on a bed nightstand).
Overall, I’m happy with the device.
For that price I would look into a nexus 7 2012. You can get it cheaper and it has better specs. It is also on kitkat and not ICS.
The only benefit I can see in the homeseer is that it will sit on a table top. I use a pogo pin dock for mine though (they are hard to find now and are upwards of $70 )

Pros:
[ul][li]Super battery life (when I want to stream TV/Movies to it on the Patio from MediaBrowser)[/li]
[li]Super big speakers[/li]
[li]Works really well on the table. I have a kindle fire in a case but it is not as nice looking as this unit.[/li][/ul]
Since SirMeili mentioned it, I might get for my second device Nexus which is more powerful…or just a stand for my Surface RT near the bed.
Thanks for the comments, I have a nexus 7 2013 that I use for general sitting on the couch watching TV keeping up on stuff. My intent for a WFTT07 like unit is a dedicated control point for my vera. I am running ImperiHome on a 7 inch cost effective ($70) android 4.2 Jelly Bean tablet and it works very well. We are using it bedside and what is missing is a clean looking tabletop/charging dock/good speakers unit. Best solution would be a case like the WFTT07 that you could put any 7 inch tablet in.

I’m not sure 4 hours “working time” (I think they mean with the screen on) is superior battery life. I think the Nexus 7s are spec’d at 8-10 hours of screen on time. I keep my 2012 docked the majority of the time, even when watching TV shows on it in bed, so I’m not 100% sure how accurate that is. I know I could watch a movie or two on it just fine undocked though.
The speakers are a benefit though. The Nexus 7 speaker (2012) royally sucks for this. The pogo dock does have an audio out, but as I said they are hard to find for less than $70 (which stinks). They did announce docks for the 2013 model, but they are either wireless charging or USB (I prefer the pogo pin docks of the 2012).
I think perhaps the last point and this point are what make it for you then. The “form factor” is not what the majority of people want (fat table top tablet). Everyone wants thin easy to carry around one. I think the best bet would be what lunchour suggested:
That would be the best solution and honestly, since you don’t care about “bulk”, you could easily fit a nice set of speakers, small amp (to help with TAblets with lacking internal amps), a charger and make it nice.
I will say the one thing I like about using normal tablets though is that when I want to just grab one and sit down and use it, it’s convenient enough to do so. So far I have a 2012 nexus tablet (sits in a dock), an OG Asus Transformer in a modified dock (I dremeled out a spot for the charger in the generic tablet dock I got), and a 2013 Nexus 7 which I use for general Tablet use, but still use for HA every now and then. The last one sits on a wireless charger I got for it so I can just grab and go (I plan on making a dock and utilizing this wireless charger in it).
Good points from SirMeili. This all started when we were visiting a neighbor that has Comcast Xfinity Home security system that has a 7 inch tablet as part of the system. My wife said she like the idea of a dedicated device that was always on and provided a status of our system ? lights, locks, cameras, sensors and climate. The other ?want? was that I have better speakers than what is on a tablet. I have been looking for a device that would ?announce? an event ? like security systems ? ?the front door has opened? or ?outside temperature has dropped to 32 degrees? One other thought, the WFTT07 does have a bigger footprint than a tablet sitting in a docking station but I would say it is compact, not bulky. I don?t know about you but I don?t have room for speakers and an amp on the nightstand.
Note when I said “speakers and an amp”, I meant a small powered amp and small speakers built into the dock (in this case a “case” for the 7" tablets). Basically exactly what the WFTT07 has. I was suggesting this because if you had a generic 7" case the user could plug a phono plug into the tablet when it’s inserted (As well as the usb/lighting connector for charging) and regardless of whether or not the tablet itself has good speaker,s the internal amp could power the “cases” speakers. I would envision such a case to be about the same size as the WFTT07 (maybe a tad bigger to support it’s “universal” support for tablets).
SirMeili, thanks for the clarification and I apologize for my misinterpretation of your comment. Now all we need is to find someone to manufacture them???..
FYI - I don’t know if they updated the website or if it always was…but this does run Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS).
