Suggestions for adding multiple lights at once?

Hi all,

How do you guys go about adding a bunch of devices at once?

What I mean is, I have about 20 dimmer switches to add - if I add them all at once, I won’t know what is what when it comes time to name the switches. That is without testing each one. If I add them one at a time (add a switch then name it, rinse, repeat), that is a lot of back and forth.

Suggestions? If I keep track of the order I add the switches, will they display in the order they were added?

Thanks.

The device # will increase by one …
If they are all the same time … the order will be the same.
If there are multiple types (dimmers and switches) they will be ordered by the type first, then the order they are paired.

Are you adding them from the VERA UI?
I have someone walk around and flip them on one by one and add a name while I install. I think to many people jump straight to talking around with their VERAlite rather then leaving i where it is, opening the UI and clicking on add a z-wave device.

I can’t find Full Power include on UI7

I do not actually have the unit yet, just trying to get process figured out in anticipation of getting things set up. I am not clear on what you mean in your last sentence. Are you saying to can add devices without bringing the unit to the device and including that way?

Yes! but if you don’t even have the unit yet alot of things are gonna be confusing until you atleast put your hands on the unit. (Probley still be confused after your hands on it too, but atleast you have a better understanding)

Old info on it here.

EDIT: Since you also don’t even have a unit yet we don’t even know which one your getting. The New Vera Edge doesn’t even have batteries in it to carry around like the older Veralite did.

I have a Vera3 UI7. I haul my Surface around and use the web interface. Turns out when you initiate from the web interface it tries full power inclusion. This is simple and works for most devices. Where it seems to fall down are locks and I make the Vera 3 mobile for these. Maybe because these are battery devices but I don’t know because these are the only battery devices I have.

TIP: Wait between devices to allow the device to fully configure before moving on to the next one.

Not only are they battery as I don’t think that makes to much of a difference, but locks use special encryption (security) which needs to be setup directly. This does sometimes make a lock harder to setup threw full power.

Other battery devices seem to work as normal.

Full power will have it’s issues tho. Any really far rooms or weak meshes may not find the device. As the mesh grows (non battery powered z-wave devices) it will get easier.

Another TIP: start adding the switches closer to the Vera first to expand the range outward.

Thanks for the info. I will be getting the Edge.
