Source Code

Hi guys, I know your really busy getting ready for GA, is their any update on when public access to SVN will be available? I’m just really curious to see the innards of what you guys have done.

Keep up the good work!

We’re working on it frantically. Since I assume you’re a developer, the inside scoop is this… We’re trying to setup Xen on one of our hosted servers in the colo facility so that active developers can get a virtual build environment to login. Building your own firmware from svn is kind of a pain since there’s a lot of steps needed to get the build environment going. But we patched the kernel to our build server as needed by Xen, and now it’s crashing (kernel panic it seems). I’m not working on it personally, but this is the status report I was given and the reason for the delay. This same server is what hosts the svn and everything build-related.

I hope hosted dev environment would not be the only option? I’m quite familiar setting up cross-compiling build environments. I may even look into creating an OpenEmbedded build environment for Vera in the future…

I run 40+ Xen domu’s at my data center, if your Linux guy has any questions I’m might be able to help. Most crashes outside a mis-configured kernel-to-xen issue (which panics right at boot) tended to be a driver issue, especially disk and raid. The other main thing that seems to crash domu’s is when using the processors vt extensions we saw crashes under heavy load due to something in qemu. The solution is to run it under paravirtualized mode, which does not use any hardware acceleration and requires a modification to the hosts kernel.

Good Luck!

No, it’s just that this is the server that’s hosting the svn and it keeps going down.

We may be getting close. My dev said that it now seems that by turning off support for the multi-core CPU he’s got it to stop crashing.

This isn’t really the place for this question, but I hate to create a new forum, just for a simple question.

It looks like there are a few people really hammering in on this system.

How long are you going to have the beta going? It’s not sounding like you want to really push the advertising on this system until the bugs are worked out (which is great), but I know you want to have a stable system. What’s your ideal timeline look like??

Our original goal was to have a ‘release’ version by 15 November. But there are still some issues to resolve. So we’ll probably push that back 1 month before dealers start selling Vera at retail. In the meantime, we extended another discount on Vera to people who want to get it early while it’s in beta ($199 vs. $299), however, we’re not offering it at the $149 subsidized price which ended on October 31.

Good to know.

Thank you.

Any update on getting the source code available to developers?

We just got, we hope, our retail release out today. So we’re shifting our attention to wrapping up unfinished business like this and should have this soon.
