SOLVED - Unexpected delayed alert of movement

Hello. I have three motion sensors connected to a Vera Edge. Everything seems to work OK related to alerts and alarms, except with one of them.

All of them are defined to send an alarm when the Mode is either Absent or Vacation.

But one of them every time I change from Home to Absent send an alert of Motion Detected, even if there has passed more than one hour that I left home. The other ones work OK, but this particular one seems as if it had stored in some buffer or storage, or server or wherever the lats movement detected and when I pass from Home mode to Absent Mode it send it to me.

I have also Pushover installed but this alert doesn’t come this way of “alarm”, but it seems to be coming from the VERA general notifications of all the devices.

I have done a comparation with the two other ones and I don’t see any difference that could explain it. It seems to be more a VERA Edge controller reason.

Any idea of help for avoiding that unexpected and disturbing delayed alert?

Thanks and kind regards.

Hello Fje,

Please check your inbox as I created a support ticket for your issue and we will troubleshoot this.

Thank you.

Hi, Radu, thanks for your ticket and mail.

We (my daughter did) already answered it with the data you asked for, and today morning (our time) I also sent you another mail with a new problem we now have, we are not able to access to the controller.

Pleas, let us know any new or thigs to do.

Regards.

Javier

Hi, Radu, new answer to your mail with our “unsuccesful” tries…

Regards.

Javier

Hi, following Radu’s (from support) indications we have solved the problem. The steps I followed following his indications were:

1.- Export the device from the VERA
2.- Reset the device to the Factory defaults
3.- Import again the device to the VERA

Additionally (and this was my own decision)

4.- Reboot VERA

Now the Unexpected alert is not there anymore.

Thanks Radu for your help.

Kind regards

Javier

Solved but do we know the root cause? How can this prevented from happening? Is it another example of device databse/config data corruption?

Don’t know.

Support asked for opening the “door” to them to have a look to both the device and the controller and they didn’t find any reason for it, having a look to the logs the unexpected alert was there, but both the device and the controller seemed to be Ok and there was no clear reason for the alert.

So, they suggested what I put in my previous post and it solved the problem.

Regards.

So in short, the probably have no idea :frowning:

Sadly, as I am afraid, it is too often the case… So it never really gets fixed. I?ve had Zooz/Monoprice 4in1 motion sensors do this on me too and reconfiguring it often fixes the problem. I speculate a corruption in the vera database causing a zwave command class to trip the wrong device variable…

I’m with you on this, although the technicalities are beyond me as such. My geofencing ticket has had no response for 6 days now (and that was just to ask for tech support access to be enabled).

I think this is my biggest challenge. Apparently we pay for support (and fair call in that case we shouldn’t go hacking around) but then support doesn’t really come through. Would be great for someone like Sorin (he seems quite senior) to weigh in on this…

I’m curious, how did you export and import an individual device?

I am very sorry, I used the wrong words/definition, I tried to say “Exclude/Include”. My apologies.
