[SOLVED] Kwikset deadbolt PIN list disappeared after adding new PIN

I’ve been using the Kwikset Z-Wave deadbolts and handle locks for about 18 months now, successfully adding and deleting PIN codes remotely.

Today, I added a new PIN code, and after adding, all of the PINs disappeared from the “Existing codes” list. There were only 5 codes already set previously. The PIN I added was 7 digits and the name was 10 letters long.

I tried to add another PIN, but it didn’t appear. I suspect that the PIN codes are set, but I just can’t view them. Is there any other way I can view the PIN list?

I do have have 7 other locks I can test, but I’d rather not if it turns out that the PIN codes were deleted. I’m at work, and I don’t want to lock out my tenants.

I’m using the most current firmware, 1.5.622.

After some searching, it seems like the same issue described by this person using a Schlage lock:

From this thread, I learned about the PinCodes variable under the ‘Advanced’ tab, and it looks like the variable didn’t get set (PINs and names redacted):

<VERSION=2>1,2,#pin1#,#name1#;	2,2,#pin2#,#name2#;1,1,w,d,2,10,0,17,0;	3,2,#pin3#,#name3#;	4,2,#pin4#,#name4#;	5,0;	6,2,#pin6#,#name6#;	7,0;	8,0;	9,0;	10,0;	11,0;	12,0;	13,0;	14,0;	15,0;	16,0;	17,0;	18,0;	19,0;	20,0;	21,0;	22,0;	23,0;	24,0;	25,0;	26,0;	27,0;	28,0;	29,0;	30,0;

However, I remembered that I could pull the JSON data from my VeraLite using /data_request?id=lu_sdata, and I get this:

<VERSION=3>7\t1,2,,,#pin1#,#name1#;\t2,2,,,#pin2#,#name2#;1,1,w,2,10,0,17,0;\t3,2,,2013-11-09 19:31:37,#pin3#,#name3#;\t4,2,,,#pin4#,#name4#;\t5,2,2013-11-12 10:53:07,,#pin5#,#name5#;\t6,2,,,#pin6#,#name6#;\t7,2,2013-11-12 11:01:41,,#pin7#,#name7#;\t8,0;\t9,0;\t10,0;\t11,0;\t12,0;\t13,0;\t14,0;\t15,0;\t16,0;\t17,0;\t18,0;\t19,0;\t20,0;\t21,0;\t22,0;\t23,0;\t24,0;\t25,0;\t26,0;\t27,0;\t28,0;\t29,0;\t30,0;\t

All of the other pincode versions are VERSION=2.

Anyway, I ended up setting the PinCode variable manually on the ‘Advanced’ tab. It still doesn’t show up on the PIN list, but I can verify that it gets set correctly using /data_request?id=lu_sdata.

Okay, so I spent about 30 minutes chatting with tech support at Vera Control. There are two issues:

  1. firmware upgrade
  2. stale browser cache

To recap,

  1. I upgraded my firmware to 1.5.622
  2. using the same browser (browser #1) I’ve always used, I am able to view my existing PIN codes
  3. using a different browser or Incognito mode (browser #2), I am unable to view my existing PIN codes
  4. after adding a new PIN code to a lock, existing PIN codes for that lock cannot be viewed on browser #1, but can be viewed on browser #2
  5. after clearing the cache on browser #1, it behaves like browser #2 (can’t see existing codes on locks unless a new code has been added for that lock)

The cache problem is probably what jasonfire was experiencing here:

Solution:

after updating firmware

  1. clear browser cache
  2. add/remove dummy PIN
