Am I going to have to rewire if all my 3 way lights are wired like this? There is no primary switch that gets the source from the junction box…
Help?

Not if you use switch modules like this Aeon Labs Aeotec Micro In-Wall Appliance Switch at the light.
I actually have one of those, and a cs600 wall switch to test with before I ordered up a bunch of stuff. (testing before i jump in to save budget)
What i cant find how i’d wire that thing up at the switch itself. Trying to find a diagram of someone that has this wired up and working before i connect it wrong and fry it.
Perhaps this will help. If not, you should consider getting an electrician to show you how to do the first one.
That is the most helpful diagram i have come across. Thank you so much. I see how that makes sense and just fits right into the existing wiring.
I’m going ot pick up a tracer to confirm these wires with everything disconnected before I get started .It looks like even thought my house is bought new only 7 years ago, the wiring is all over the place. Like either 3 diff electricians wired this up quick as a team and do things differently from circuit to circuit, or some guy was trying to learn diff ways to do stuff and was trying to see how many different wiring methods he could get into one house…
I’m also going to get my wife to cook dinner and invite my dad over, He’s a retired general contractor and knows his way around gang boxes so he can help keep me out of trouble.
Again, this was super helpful. Thank you so much, I’ll report back my progress.
Got to love z-waver’s diagrams!
I’ll be the first to admit that they are rather tragic.
I’ll try to do better for the new year.
OK, i was completely wrong about the power at the light… A little bit closer but I still had to put the reg switches back on.
I got things powered and working, but when i flipped the second switch the first switch and zwave stopped working entirely… as long as the second switch was on, i could use the first switch and zwave commands…
I guess i’m missing something straight forward… Here’s my set up
Line —> Switch one ---- two wires between switch one and two → switch two → one wire to light All have neutrals at the boxes and light.
I need to figure out what i’m wiring wrong as the whole circuit only works when switch two is in one position.
Nemix, you’re posting this info so far in three different threads. It would help us to help you if you just kept it to one thread. At this point I have no idea what your “true” current status is, good luck.
I have 5 three ways in my house, of which they are wired three different ways.
The one light that is wired true power at the light is solved last night , thanks to Zwavers diagram posted above and the microswitch module.
Two of my other circuits that are wired properly (I think) should work with CA600 and the existing aux switch being jumpered with the travelers reversed. Since I have a CA600 on hand already, this is what I’m going to try finishing and verifying next.
The last 2 I still cant figure out what is going on, but I will continue to try and map with my wire tracer and multimeter. I think they may end up needing new wiring since it looks like they have tapped into other wiring or been ran in ways that are non standard and maybe even not up to code.
So to summarize, the three way at the light set up is working and verified, four other three ways still in progress, 2 of 4 I believe i have the wiring mapped and a plan that will work with CA600, the last two I’m still struggling to understand the current wiring and thus what Zwave solution will work for them.
