I just got my mi casa verde vera lite and was able to plug it in and follow the initial instructions. Early in the set up process, I had the option of continuing the set up or upgrading firmware. I chose to upgrade the firmware and after 17 minutes of waiting, I followed the instructions and unplugged the router’s power.
When I tried to start over, the blue light (power) would turn solid after the appropriate amount of time, the orange light (ready) would not turn on at all, and the green light (network) would just continue to flash. Now all I get is “ERROR Cannot communicate with your unit.”
After looking through these forums for awhile, I couldn’t find anyone with the same problem as well so I’ve posted this up. I’ve already requested assistance through the support page. Does anyone know what to do?
Thats quite strange. Did you already register an account with MIOS? maybe you can try to access it remotely via Internet if you can not connect via LAN.
Otherwise, you may want to reset the unit? I believe there is a reset switch at the button of the unit

I wasn’t able to register an account with MIOS because I had just plugged in the vera lite. Since I’ve had the problem with the flashing green network light, I’ve tried everything. I followed the instructions at http://docs5.mios.com/doc.php?page=network_troubleshooting. An error message saying the firmware wasn’t upgraded comes up. There is a link to access the vera lite’s software with username root with no password, also there’s some language about how I would void technical support if I messed with it. (not too concerned with that since it appears MiCasaVerde is actually really supportive of the developer community)
Double tapping the reset button did nothing, and following the instructions at http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Firmware_Flash_VeraLite also didn’t help. All I got were 2 notices that said “Broadcast Error” when I first tried to boot up the firmware recovery program and “Access Targer Error” when I tried to load the bin file.
Please help, I plan on installing about at least 5 kwikset smartcode locks, a garage opener, 2 light switches, and motion sensors, and 8 ip cameras to my house’s setup but everything’s at a stand still until I can get this hub working. I’ve attached a gif of what it looks like.
From this it looks like you are still able to communicate with the Vera. That means that it at least is running some firmware, and isn’t bricked.
You may as well try Setup > Backup > Restore to Factory Defaults. You don’t have much to lose. But chances are that some part of the nonvolatile storage on the Vera (that identifies it to the upstream servers as a Vera) has become corrupted, so probably you are stuck until Micasaverde tech support gets to your case.
just went through 2 hours of phone support and now it’s up and running. wow, those eastern european guys really are helpful. now if i can just get this thing to pair with my kwikset lever… thanks everyone.
Nice if you would end with the solution here, after two hour support.
But here is atleast some ideas, finnaly fireing up mine. Hope it can help anyone having the same problem.
I just fired up my VeraLite, power and ready lighted up solid (after a real long while), but network wouldn’t. The unit didn’t match according to Micasas setup page, ok network light was flashing. Checked cable ok, and even switched to another, still the same.
After searching this forum with no result, I had no clue. Then I tried the link on setup page - to add one that already existed one - but mine is new… The link took me to a login page. I thus created a new account and entered the pages. The said I had now one hoked up to their account. But then I could see my new unit and could add it. Glad I tried that path, now it’s up running and new firmware is loading right now.
frahnk, what did you do to fix this problem,. A colleague is in the same boat as you were, bought the vera lite, undated f/w and now it doesn’t work, with the same lights on / off as you. Any help would be appreciated.
I have the same exact situation - Frahnk, what did you do to fix it? I am excited to get this setup and tech support is closed. I probably won’t get home from work in time to call them tomorrow either.
Had the same problem but following Da_JoJo’s method doesn’t work for me.
Instead, I called support and they needed to telnet into my VeraLite (they have control of my computer via LogMeIn) and remove some file from the unsuccessful firmware upgrade and ran some script to redo the upgrade and reboot the VeraLite.
Don’t remember exactly what was cleaned up or what script to run, but FYI to telnet into your VeraLite from your computer:
Set your computer network adaptor’s IPv4 to
IP: 192.168.81.10 (this is your computer’s IP)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.81.1 (this is the VeraLite’s IP)
Connect the ethernet cable from your computer’s network adaptor to the (only) ethernet port on the VeraLite.
Power on your VeraLite. Wait until the unit is booted up (blue LED solid)
Use a terminal program (eg. Putty) and telnet to 192.168.81.1
you can also just connect the vera to your router and it will get an IP from the DHCP server. and get the IP via the router interface.
if you are running windows you see in network neighbourhood (turn on network discovery offcourse) a device under the section Home Automation called MiOS
right-click that device and choose properties. in the window that comes up it has the IP of the vera as last line.
Use this IP to connect to it via program called WinSCP > http://winscp.net/eng/download.php
If my method does not work then you should contact support as there is not much you can do on the vera that will fix it properly.
Do not alter any files on the vera as you probably have no idea what ur doing there and only gonna mess up the vera.
I’ve also tried connecting my VeraLite to my router - I get the IP from the router admin interface, but I can’t even ping Vera, so I doubt WinSCP would work.
Anyway, the phone support guy Chris is pretty nice and was able to quickly resolve the issue.
i can ping my vera lite, so there must be something in the networksettings not right then.
WinSCP is most usefull prog as it can do filetransfer besides telnet.
another great program is www.teamviewer.com 's remote is a very good program to remote your windows pc and even android phone. on pc it also can do phone like skype.
support is really helpfull and nice indeed
