So confused

The way you changed it was correct and in some cases this maybe effective as in the case of some alarm systems devices that are created in your Vera. So the advice provided by MCV may have be influenced by what was said to them and this their recommendation to change to what they provided but as far as I know, in this case, it will render your device not functional which is what I previously read.

Why is it wrong because it does not match the device specifications and will render it not working and that is beyond our control. This may not be the answer you want or to your liking but it is the core problem in which Richard originally warned you that this may cause problems if you change it. Of course you could go back to MCV and see if they have another answer, fix or something else to rectify your original support request to them but my advice to to revert changes back to Motion and have a functional device for at least now. They last point is before you go and change things in the future always to a backup manually. There is always good advice provided but sometimes things just do not work and people have been caught out having to reset everything and restore.[/quote]ok this kinda makes a lot more sense? thank you

As I wrote in a previous post and if you think that the UI5 interface is modern

“For me it is convenient to change the icons, it makes the interface more attractive as you can see here: http://www.lamaisonentique.com/images/dashboard.jpg
By cons, if I change the icon for a virtual switch I can not use the trigger in the scene vera. I find that unfortunate.”

“In fact I used switches for my wife and children so they can change the values directly in the dashboard.
Scenes that followed regardless of their choice and act.

Why do we have to go adding +1, +1 …for a feature that should happen naturally from MCV team ? They work in a light bulb factory ?

The Vera product is not designed to do what people want … that’s the starting point.

Some very clever people have been able to go beyond the design limits … there are differences when this happens … some that people do not notice … but there is NO way to change the Icon for a single device and have every OTHER interface to that device work transparently.

Since very few people use every software interface to a device … the hacks might appear to work
and for a while you might not notice a problem.
Then you try to something new like accessing the device remotely from a mobile app … and it isn’t recognized.

Until MCV steps up to providing Device instance customization … any hack to work around this deficiency will ultimately bite you.

The hacks people have used to change the device type for a particular device just to link a new icon to that device will cause lots of support issues and problems … as opposed to just accepting the fact that it can’t be done correctly now.

“The Vera product is not designed to do what people want … that’s the starting point.”
Wow! change an icon is a hack, even Microsoft had not thought of!

The “people” you are talking about are customers. They pay a product in the hope that it is reliable and usable simply. Apple has understood this for a long time.
In your answer, there is no positive, at least recognizing that this feature is interesting but impossible to do.

Thank you for your reply, I understand better.

I do not work for MCV … I am a user just like you … but every product has a set of features that were designed in. When your features requirements are not met you get the next version or another product.

“or another product”
Thank you, it is on that you are not working at MCV

You will find straight shooters on this forum … MCV employees occasionally read and answer … but that’s way less than 1% and usually when they know they are the only ones that can answer a question.

You will find open discussions about products that interface to Vera and products that compete with Vera.

At this time Vera is about as good as it gets … there are a few that disagree … In a year things could change. I hope Vera stays a step ahead of the competition. But If they do not … I will move.
