I have a lamp plugged into the Aeon Labs DSC24-ZWUS Smart Switch Z-Wave Appliance Module.
Now, I’d like to be able to turn the lamp on or off at will when I am home… is there a way to turn the lamp on or off at the switch? Or do I just have to remember to turn the lamp on after I am done so that the PLEG can deal with it?
Additionally, using a wall mounted Z-Wave controller such as the Evolve LTM-5 Accessory Switch you could switch the lamp module On and Off via the wall switch.
In all cases, use of the lamp’s own built-in switch(rotary/pull chain) should be discontinued. If that switch is turned Off, there is no way to turn the lamp On using Z-Wave/Vera.
A different option, that I personally prefer, would be to Z-Wave enable the lamp with a Aeon Labs Micro In-Wall Appliance Switch as I described in this thread. With this method, you can have local control of the lamp and retain Z-Wave control at all times.
I would recommend using something like the minimote. I used to use smartphone apps, but find the remotes are much faster as you don’t need to fiddle with lock screens and loading apps and such.
After all the point of all these gadgets is to make things more convenient. If you ever find yourself needing to remember to do something to keep the house in the proper state, that’s less convenient…
