Sleep timer?

Is there a way to set up a “sleep timer” so that if I press a button on a remote, it turns on an appliance, but then automatically turns it off at a set amount of time such as 2 hours?

If so how?

I don’t understand that. As with other Vera things, it is not intuitive or obvious. To me if I add a delay set for 30 minutes wont that mean it will wait 30 minutes to turn on after a button is pressed? I don’t understand how to set something to turn on right away when I press a button, then turn off automatically at a set time. It is not clear how that would work. Any hints?

You’d set the button to “on” under “Immediate” and then “off” under the “30 minute delay” option. That way, the light goes “on” immediately and “off” in 30 minutes…

Make sense? Agree there’s something ‘odd’ about how they decided to implement it, but once you realize that the delay is not mutually exclusive to the “immediate” (or vice versa), it makes (a little more) sense.

You would set the same scene that way or make another one with a 30 min delay ? I tried messing with it but it still was confusing. I set a delay and saved the scene but then when I went back in to edit it, it showed as immediate.

Have a look at the attachments contained in the last post of this thread. It may assist.

Was the ‘countdown timer’ plugin mentioned? you could set a scene to run when the timer is finished. it works great.

Where is that? Do you need to program or write scripts for that or is it more dummy proof?

It shows as immediate up the top, (and your light switch would be highlighted as ‘on’), but when you click the ‘immediate’ drop down box, it will show the 30 minute delay and the corresponding ‘off’ command when you click on it.

The UI takes a bit to get used to. But for your case it works quite well.
