I plan to setup Vera in our rental home. I would like to keep Vera and its dongle in a safe place (ie lock closet). I have few questions:
1- Can Vera be setup to use its wireless to communicate with my wireless router and be part of an existing network?
2- What is the distance of Vera to communicate with other Z-wave modules?
3- I plan to have Vera to control 1 deadbolt and 2 thermostats. Any recommendation? specially about the thermostat
I’ve answered your other question about the thermostat. We don’t suggest any thermostat because we have no contract with those brands, but if you search the forum and wiki, you will find the one that suits your need. Wayne Dalton works great for most of our customers.
Now, regarding your other questions:
Yes, you can setup Vera to connect to your existing wireless network and also control your devices.
There are a lot of factors to consider. But generally, there should be no issue and this is because the Z-Wave network is a mesh one, this means that all the devices communicate with each other and transmit the signal from one to another to the Vera box.
Schlage are the most common deadbolts our customers use.
