sensor delay?

Hi all,
I’m currently exploring my options for an alarm panel and house automation. I have a blank canvas as I do not own any of these technologies yet.
It seems as visonic alarm with a veralite would get the results I’m looking for. I’ve been doing a lot of research recently and there have been many mentions of wireless pir sensors having a large delay in reporting movement.

Tl;dr - is there a noticeable delay when using visonic PIR sensors to activate scenes in the Vera?

Alarm PIR sensors are by nature more careful to trigger an event - as you don’t want false alarms. The Visonic sensors can be set to trigger after 1 or 2 events (default is 2). You can set them to 1, which will make them react faster. But this might also cause false alarms.

I’m using a Aeon Z-wave sensor in the garage to trigger the light, which it does relatively quickly. But it also gives quite some false triggers, so I wouldn’t want to use it for my alarm.

The Visonic sensors I use at night to turn on the lights in the house. There can be some delay sometimes, but in general this is not too bad.

thanks for taking the time to reply nlrb. I understand that there would be some delay, but I’ve seen some reports of PIRs taking some 6 seconds to react. I can live with a short delay, and as you suggest, for times when I want quicker reaction I can buy a Z-Wave unit.

A Visonic Alarm paired with a VeraLite seems to be my ideal setup, the only downside being that I can’t also plugin an RFXcom USB adapter to be able to control other protocols (like LightwaveRF)

The 6 second delay you are referencing is for the DSC wireless motion sensors. The reason for this is to prevent false alarms. Wired motion sensors (for the DSC) are pretty much instant.
