Schlagelink vs. Vera question

With regard to the Trane Therostates, can I assume that Vera can handle it well and with all the Schlagelink “bells and whistles”?

Is it difficult to move from one system to the next? (as I have Schlagelink now).

Also Basic pro’s and con’s?

Thanks

You can add Vera to the Schlage -link and Vice versa.
I don’t know if each and every function is available in Vera but in know there are more things available in Vera than with Schlage by far.
Unfortunately some functions are proprietary.Meaning it’s not part of the general Zwave code, and thus not supported for use by all Zwave devices. MCV vastly has done more in order to implement more functions and features than most other Zwave controllers out there.

One feature the Schlage lock has is a Vacation mode. This is not supported by Vera yet and I don’t know if ever will. MCV will have to answer that.

I can’t comment on many of the bells and whistles - just on one basic difference in usability. I’ve used both recently. I had a Schlage bridge before buying a Vera. After removing my Trane tstat from the Schlage bridge’s zwave network (important), I joined it to the Vera with no problem at all. The only thing I like better about the Schlage interface is that you dont have to type anything to adjust the setpoints if you don’t want to - you can click up and down arrows to change them. I cant do that with Vera; I have to click the box and type the new setpoint. A minor issue that I mainly only notice when accessing the Vera from an iPod touch where typing is a bit more cumbersome.

Ya that is one thing I suggested a long time ago but I guess it slipped through the cracks

Use SQ remote as it allows set-point adjustment without typing them!

What is SQ Remote?

Yes and I’ve attached an example of one of the thermostat controls. Most controls in SQ remote are customizable.

After Vera is installed, how difficult is it to add the SQ Remote?

Very easy for me  No vera configuration, there is just a small learning curve with SQ remote though and it takes an initial bit of effort to customize it in the way that you want it.
