Does anyone have any experience with the Schlage z-wave door lock? I see that you have to pay about $13/month to be able to unlock it via the internet and it requires a z-wave gateway. What if you already have a z-wave system set up? Can Vera open it and not have to pay the monthly?
I don’t want to make a commitment until everything is resolved, but I’m pretty certain Vera will let you securely lock/unlock it without needed a separate service. One issue, though, is Schlage does require extra layers of security to be certified and we have to work out if it will be allowed to do this without the findvera service, since, without it, you won’t have a secure point-to-point connection.
Is there another z-wave door lock out there? the Schlage is the only one I know of.
I would be interested in information on a door lock too!
Also, anyone know of one that also works with key fob for touchless entry? And supports Z-Wave?
I remember reading that black and decker was planning to release one next summer.
Micasa
I think and believe that if the Shlage door lock is a Zwave branded device then I think it would be against the Whole Zwave claim of Interoperability and compatability thing.
sure we all want security. But is a SSL realy necessary for all applications.
I think you will need to stand up for the Zwave standard.
The door lock class has been around for some time now.
what’s the point if you have to buy a new system just to use the lock.
Anyone bought a Schlage Link System yet?
I can hear the cricket’s chirping on this topic.
We might have to search outside Micasaverde for someone using this door lock.
If anyone does find anything, please post here, and if i get time, and remember, I’ll do a little investigating.
While there has been a lot of noise none of the locks are broadly available yet. I have seen the prototypes work at shows but they are all linked to monthly fees as far as I have been able to tell and the use cases are not clear. One needs a manual unlock/lock after the command is received while the other is motor driven. They also respond to combinations. They don’t look to be replacements for the traditional apt bldg. remote release lock. I have not figured out the real use case yet.
Micasa have you been able to get the SDK for the Schlage lock yet
Well, whenever you build a door, or window - first of all it’s a hole in your perimeter. There always will be someone willing to test your security.
For such an application as a door lock merely SSL is by far not enough. What findvera is doing - proxying the access without letting you in for real, and then communicating with your vera over SSL is much more solid architecture. It allows to implement real-time monitoring of behavioral patterns of main users, thus increasing chances of detecting unauthorized activities. Ever heard of automatic bot detectors? Not ultimately reliable, but much, much better then nothing. Here we’re talking not about protection public forums or a blog, but about access to physical equipment in your house which potentially can cause severe harm.
It should be the user that has the ultimate right to choose how to secure the lock.
If Schlage want to use Zwave then they need to follow the rules.
Interoperability and compatibility.
The door lock class has been around for quite a while now.
If you are worried about security then think about the sclage lock system.
- they will know your address as it is required in the sign up process
- they will know you IP address.
and so on and so on…
How many hacks or buglers are going to go through the effort to steal the code to let themselves in… If that is what they want to do at least you won’t have door or window to replace.
Of course, but then stupid but overly active user will leave it insecure, and after something happens - sue the company. There will be a field day (or a year) for lawyers.
so what.
Many products can be used as not recommended.
That is a fact of life.
Are existing remote door lock systems suing and winning. I mean those 24v door strike releases. Or the magnetic ones…
Hi any news on the Door lock SDK?
Does anyone have it?
I just spoke to Schlage again today. Our SDK will be shipped on January 1. They expect the locks to hit the market by late January.
Woo hoo!
Hopefully they won’t be too much.
Excellent news! To bad they missed the Christmas rush!!!
Still waiting on this! Did you guys get the Schlage SDK yet?
We are getting antsy ;D
