Schlage RS200HC Behavior

I have installed a Schlage RS200HC attached to my Vera to control the lights in the kitchen. It is associated with a timer to allow the lights to go out if there is no activity in the kitchen for 30 minutes. However, if there is a lot of activity, such as during meal preparation, the lights will go out when the timer expires because the Schlage does not trigger if it detects motion within 4 minutes. Obviously at meal time there is lots of motion in the kitchen and the detector constantly sees motion and thus does not reset the timer.

I thought about using the 10 second retrigger option on the sensor but that results in an enormous amount of z-wave activity from the sensor and to the lights and the timer is constantly being reset every few seconds. It seems like there is no happy medium in this case and I’m curious if anyone else has had this problem and how you have addressed it.

Thanks.

There are many discussions similar to this with other motion sensors with different solutions. I suggest that you dig a little on the forum. Some have used PLEG to over come this, others have used luup code to only activate during certain times of the day, etc.

Thanks, in thinking about it I guess it would be a fairly common situation depending on the adjustability of the sensor. I have an Everspring unit in the Family Room doing the same sort of thing and haven’t seen this problem. But that unit has an analog variable trigger setting so maybe I just accidentally hit the sweet spot on it.
