Came across this post on the thread for Schlage sale at Radioshack that has details to reflash the ROM of the Schlage IP cameras that will let them activate without subscribing to the Schlage link service. I spent about an hour reprogramming the camera and setting it up with Vera (1.1.1183). Under settings, put the image url as /img/snapshot.cgi?size=3&quality=3 (for normal settings) and use either the admin account or a user account for the camera (created in the admin section of the camera after reprogramming) for authentication.
Hope this helps who either have this camera or can get one from Radioshack (the website doesn’t list the item anymore but I was able to find two by calling and checking item # 6100226 for the wired one.) One can print a coupon for $10 off $40 by visiting this link as well.
[quote=“newstargazer, post:4, topic:167770”]Apologies for the malformed coupon link. When I cut and paste from Slickdeals, it didn’t copy over correctly. Here is the correct link:
I generally print multiple coupons with refreshing and split my purchases so that each order is around ~$40 to maximize the discounts (except for the deadbolts of course.) Most Radioshacks in my area have given me no problem ringing my purchases as multiple orders.
I am thinking about get this but had some concerns about quality and lack of features. Can you give a quick review of the how the camera is working on Vera?
I haven’t played around much yet but the quality of the video/images on the local network were adequate in a lighted room. The form factor was a bit deceiving on the boxas the the actual camera seemed quite a bit bigger than what I had expected but the build quality looks pretty solid. I was initially thinking about buying the Foscam for about ~$90 but for ~$20 a pop after coupon, decided to experiment with these first and then invest in the more expensive gear when I am really ready.
I really don’t know how you ppl keep on finding things at your Radioshacks. Where I am, every Radioshack within a 50 mile radius has all been completely cleaned out. I’ve been looking for the past 2 months. lol.
goto RadioShack.com, click on the 1 remaining GE Z-wave item that shows as “InStore Only”, click on “find it in store”, then put in your zipcode and you can specify the distance as well, that will show you Radio Shacks that have that item (BTW, the item is the GE 45605 Z-wave outlet). Then you visit these stores, I have found 2 locally (in Boston), that each had 2 of the outlets, one had a Schlage deadbolt kit only ($70), and a Trane thermostat ($60), the other had 2 of the hardwired IP cameras for $25 each. Of course I bought all of this… they also had some other items such as the 3-ways swtch kits, 2 way switch, a few outdoor modules, GE remotes, a couple of the lever locks (1 lock only 1 kit), etc. I have so much now, I kind of have to stop buying stuff. It’s hard to pass up this stuff though
Allright…allright…here is my secret.
Take the item #s from the web site. Go to your shack, give all the item #s to the associate. Have him look up to see which nearby stores have them and call the other stores. Have them ship the items to your store. Come back in a couple of days and pick your stuff up. Done!! Just did this today for a couple of schlage locks, 3-way, 2-way etc. Downside - spent another $300. Someone stop me ;D ;D!!
BTW, I just upgrade one of the Schalge cameras, have tested with the web interface directly so far (not Vera yet), it works pretty well, 640 X 480 30fps video, has a microphone and you get audio as well, and it has a place to connect a speaker so I think you can do 2 way audio. Has lots of options in the administrator tab, such as motion detection, NTP server setup, email notification. Looks like a deal for $25
I found the “North Q” Website as well (they actually make this camera)… and found the manual for the wireless version (which is similar to the wired version)
when you click on “support”, its some other language, and the “english” icon at the bottom doesn’t work… will have to run this site through the translator.
well, I downloaded & installed the “Monitor Manager”, which let’s you add several of these IP cams, record them, looks to be a nice “DVR”, with multiple windows etc. Works well… Has anyone figured out how to integrate this to Vera? Doesn’t appear to take snapshots, but does have a way to push out to a web page on an event. There has to be an easy way, I just haven’t figured it out yet
Administrator with a blank password is the default when you first flash the device. Probably a good idea to change those. My pictures didn’t seem to show up until I set the username in UI4.
Size varies from 1-3 ( 160x128, QVGA, VGA) and Quality from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest).
I found the URL / settings on the slickdeals thread. Hope that helps.
[quote=“radarengineer, post:18, topic:167770”]I picked up two of these today at Radio Shack (I actually have to take one of them back… the gave me a wireless by mistake. ).
Mine takes snapshots in vera without a problem. I didn’t do anything special, but just for good measure here are the steps:
First I installed “Generic IP Camera” from the mios marketplace.

Thanks, that works great. I would keep the wireless version, that one is actually worth $70 (or at least, thats what they are discounting them to). It also has a LAN jack as well, so it will work as a wired camera as well.
