RFXcom on the Vera Edge

The 8th January I was asked to enable the “Tech Support” so they could take a look at my Vera. Haven’t heard anything since.

Got the same reply, they are working on it :-[

Got the same message 2015-01-10 about that Veras “developers know about that issue and this should be fixed in the next firmware update that is announced to come at the end of january.”.

Have anyone heard about the new FW? Bought my new Vera Edge before christmas and have still not been able to take the leap and upgrade from my old Vera Lite… :S

Today’s answer:… >:(

Hello,

We apologize for the inconvenience this issue have caused you but rest assured that this will be resolved ASAP. For the moment our development team is still working on resolving the USB issue, but as soon as I have an update I?ll let you know.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Regards,

Brian

Just to update this thread; I started a conversation on Vera’s Facebook page some three weeks ago about the USB/RFX issues I have being having with the Vera Edge and the ?85 RFX I had bought to use with it. I involved Marc and a Product Director and the response was that, “there was a planned end of month fix (January)” and that, “I would be very pleased with it” or words to that effect.

As I am at work I do not have access to social media sites but I will update this thread with a link when I get home. I’ve given the Vera team an opportunity to deliver to their word, and I must say in their favor that the response from Board level would appear that they have engaged with the issues so let’s see what materializes. I would recommend posting issues on there as it will get a better response due to it being a public portal. Naturally when the fix comes out I will return the feedback so that other perspective customers can see that the issues are being dealt with in a timely manner.

Without basic USB functionality, this box is no better than an expensive remote control but mine is also unstable. Hang in there guys, there are only two days left in this month.

seeing is believing…

David McKenna Morning Marc - can you please let us know when the next firmware fixing the USB issues will be out today or tomorrow. There's a lot of black lego bricks out here with flashing lights not doing much until this promised support is available Like ? Reply ? 4 hrs
Vera Control, Ltd. @dDavid McKenna I believe that we are still a few days away. We will post it on FB as soon as it's available.

4 hours ago on FB…

Same answer I just got by e-mail:

Hello Aron,

As far as I know the development team will release a new update next week and this issue should be fixed. Please check our facebook page for the announcement when the update will be available.

Thank you for understanding.

Regards,

David S

The 7.0.4 FW is scheduled to be released on 2/2.

http://support.getvera.com/customer/portal/articles/1851597-ui7-▾-version-7-0-4-1-7-513-1-7-957-▾-feb-3-2015
“USB interface and functionality fully restored”

*Edit

Checking if there is a newer firmware version available... You are running the latest version: 1.7.906
Above link is Version 7.0.4 (1.7.513/1.7.957), according to http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,30548.0.html it make take a few days before it becomes available for upgrade.

Argh! >:(

Just received this message from support:

Hello Aron,

Unfortunately the QA Team discovered a regression significant enough to pull the andon cord in the very final hours of the 4th.

Suffice to say the decision to delay, versus keep schedule, is not one we take lightly.

We?re addressing this ASAP and WILL get this release out THIS week. Again, we?re sorry for the delay and the extra hurdle.

Will this madness never end?! :S

Credence to the Vera team though - they were working to 3am trying to get this fixed and will have a new build ready over night. Communication IS coming from them and let’s face it none of us want a broken controller.

Let’s all take a breath, make a coffee - give them some space and await the next update which I’m expecting to be in the next 12 hours or so.

Cheers

David

Yes, by this time I am used to waiting… Just let’s hope the new (new) FW really IS released this week. Bought my new, shiny Vera Edge long before Christmas and I haven’t been able to start using it yet!

Amen to that! Selling a Vera with USB port when the USB port is still in development phase is insane. Like selling a car with GPS but the GPS won’t work (at all!) until first service…

Almost as insane as it is hard to get a post through in this forum without retrying 10 times to get all validations correct…
I bought 2 months ago. It’s laying turned off collecting dust still :(.

The USB was not in development, the firmware shipped was missing critical pieces of software which was missed during build time. Something that should not have been overlooked during testing, but it happened.

New FW (1.7.961)! Upgrading now!

Still not working with the RFXtrx on FW 1.7.961. :frowning:

Get the “Not available” error message as before.

Found this message from Vera support on their Facebook page:

Quick follow up to those customers that are using USB to Serial Adapters with VeraEdge. We've found an issue with certain adapters that may require an additional software update to allow them to communicate properly.

Please email usb@mios.com for update instructions, or to schedule an appointment with Technical Support and we’ll perform the update for you, as a courtesy.

As always, thanks for your patience, understanding, and support.

Cheers,

Colin Burke McClur

EDIT: With the custom FW support e-mailed URL for it works! Excellent!

Hi all,
As many others I have been waiting for a fix of this problem. After seeing the posts here I contacted Vera and received a link to a special OpenWRT firmware. The error message about serial port configuration has disappeared but I am still having problems and was hoping for some help or guidance from here.

My problem is that I am not able enable or disable different protocols and therefore I am not able to add devices. As seen in the screen shot all enable/disable buttons are highlighted and nothing happens when I click on them… I don’t know whether this is still a problem with the Vera or if I just don’t understand how the plugin works. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I don’t know if there is a workaround for this in UI7 but you can also hock your RFXtrx433 to a PC and set the active protocols with RFXmngr http://rfxcom.com/Downloads.

Thanks for the tip. I will try your workaround to see if I can get it to work. Out of curiosity: Are you having the same plugin behavior (all green buttons and no possibility to enable/disable)?
