I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong forum. I am looking for the best way to control Sonos via Google Home voice commands. It would be great to have the ability to start/stop a streaming station in a given zone, adjust volumes and add zones. I have Sonos playing various streaming radio stations in my living room now but it is leveraging the Lutron Caseta hub integration with Sonos that is visible in Vera with the Caseta app and visible to Google Home via Ha Bridge. I can only get this working when I create “scenes” in the Lutron app. So, does anyone have a Vera/Sonos integration they are happy with? I can most likely figure out how to get it working with voice commands via Google Home. Thanks!
There is the Sonos plugin for Vera that works pretty well in not only playing stations but also using Sonos speakers for eg announcements using TTS. A forum search on Sonos should get you started.
As far as Google home is concerned I value my privacy too much so I don’t use that platform. Amazon’s Echo is about as far as I am willing to go there. I am being told that a direct Sonos <> Echo interface skill is in beta so I will probably install that when it comes in out to get direct access. Although right now Alexa runs scenes on Vera that control Sonos. I’m surprised there is no direct control between Google and Sonos at this time.
That’s a fine line you’re walking , there. I understand the distinction, but it’s a tiny one.
I’ve not heard Jeff Bezos (Amazon) state that I have no expectation of privacy using the service. Something Eric Schmidt (Google) has stated loud and clear a while back. (the workaround to that is called duckduckgo.com) I keep a close eye on my alexa.amazon.com page and had a packet sniffer on her for a few days and as far as I can tell the wench is not tattling on me unless I ask her. I could be wrong though and am aware of that. anyhow, with the new FCC chairman Pai, my ISP can be even worse that Google and Microsoft combined so I’m working on a VPN solution via a server outside the USA to address that.
