I’m sure someone has already done something like this and I found little bits and pieces on the net, but nothing specifically on this board or exactly what I’m looking to do.
Basically I was looking at going with a Keene IR anywhere (and the plug-in) or the really interesting IR-Bridge that is up for pre-order, but neither of them exactly fits my needs. The IR-Bridge is close, but limited to 20 different stored codes and the corresponding commands.
My current setup is I have RF IR remotes that control all of my AV equip which is centrally located. I used ZeeVee QAM modulators to send the signal over coax to TV’s through-out the house. Since I already have the RF remotes and an IR receiver/repeater in my equip room I want to be able to control all of my z-wave lights through-out the house. I currently have it setup to work with a music server with an IR receiver (over USB) using event ghost to send wget commands to run scenes. However I am replacing that server with a stand alone hard-drive and don’t want to leave the equivalent of a desktop PC running all the time.
I think I have a way to accomplish what I want, but not the intelligence to put the idea together. I figured I could get a raspberry pi and add an IR receiver to it. That IR receiver would get any signals I have programmed to it and send the command over IP to the vera. In theory this should work and shouldn’t be terribly difficult to setup. I would guess the hardest part is finding and loading the correct packages for the pi, then configuring the IR codes. Beyond that it should be a lot of wash, rinse, repeat.
I searched the boards and couldn’t find what I was looking for. I actually did find a post that said someone had done it, but they didn’t give any details and actually linked to the Keene IR anywhere solution. Is this something someone else has already tackled?
