Questions before I buy

I am thinking about trying Vera out but I have few questions before I drop $300.

With this new Luup engine can you control other things other than Z- Wave products? What kind of cool things can you do with the plugins? I would like to know if there is going to be a iPhone app from the app store? I would rather use that than a web browser.

Thanks

This might help, although the “Supported Hardware” wiki page should really be named “Mostly Z-Wave Stuff that Users Have Tried”:

The short answer to your question is: “Yes, Vera can do a LOT more!”

For instance, now that Vera’s latest firmware can interoperate with Insteon and X10 (requires a Luup Plug-In which will be documented by the end of this month), you’re in a position to re-use some older home automation (HA) technologies. Folks already have Vera doing things with serial interfaces, and the whole world of USB functionality lies just over the horizon.

Vera’s a work in progress, but frankly, I’m astonished at how professionally, speedily and determinedly the developers at MCV have been working toward “doing it all”. Trust me, they have incredibly lofty plans, and seem intent on making it all come to fruition.

It took me 10 years to even begin thinking about HA again after giving up with flaky X10 systems, so I didn’t jump on this bandwagon lightly. I think it’s totally worth the investment!
