Projector Screen - What switch to use?

I know this has been asked and I did do a search… but for the life of me I cannot figure this one out. What switch can I use for my motorized projector screen? It has an up/neutral/down on it so a typical switch won’t work. People have mentioned using switches for roller blinds but I cannot figure this one out.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Even an idea of what to look for would be helpful. I’m sure someone here has gotten this working. Thanks!

I will take a shot at it. Not sure if this will help. I am guessing that what you need is a DPST Zwave switch. I haven’t found one. You could do it with (2) DSC18103-ZWUS switches. One for up and one for down. You would want two micro switches in series that would disconnect the motor from power at full top and full bottom. You would send an on command to the switch for the direction you are using and then use. You would use the on delay to send the off command. There might be a better way but, that what came to mind.

Thanks Mark – Much appreciated. Is the DSC something I would bury into the gang box?

Depends on what the screen has in it already. Does is have a momentary switch that you either have to hold until the projector is down or “click” like a garage door opener to initiate an up or down movement and the screen stops when done? Or is it maintained where you just leave the switch in the direction of travel? Is the switch wired to low voltage or line voltage?

It is a three position switch where you switch it to ‘down’ to lower it; ‘neutral’ to stop it if you don’t want it all the way down’; and ‘up’ for… well, rolling it up!

The wires don’t look like low voltage but I’ll have to check it with a multimeter.

I have some ideas, but you need to provide more information:

Does the switch stay in the last position you left it (maintained), or does it spring return to neutral when you let go of it (momentary)? This is critically important.

Can you access the wires of the switch? How many are there? Which ones get connected to which in all three positions?

Do you have a model or part number for the screen and/or switch?
