Hi, This might be a case of wanting wine on a beer budget…but: Other that lutron, is there a curtain track that exists that has the following cababilities:
Percentage feedback to the control system (example: the curtains are currently 29% open)
clutch system to allow local manual open/close.
can be controlled by vera
I know that lutron makes motorized tracks that fit the bill, but I have been quoted at over $2k per window. I don’t mind spending money to get good stuff, but there is a limit to how much I value window coverings that close themselves.
I’m using several Forest Shuttle-L and like them a lot. Native Z-wave+ with position reporting, normal manual open/close (a tiny pull is enough to make it open/close fully) etc. Not cheap either, but a bit less costly than Somfy to give an idea (and Somfy goes not talk Z-wave).
Second this - I have 4 sets of roller blinds and 4 sets of curtains (the curtains I actually ended up not using) that all use Dooya motors. But for the blinds - extremely happy with them, specially the cost
They’re custom length, about 12 feet each, and got them for roughly $140 shipped domestically in China (I used my own shipper). They quoted me $200 each, shipped, but that’s to an Asia address.
Got them thru Aliexpress (Friend Industry is the seller), but just messaged there directly and settled offsite, as it was a custom length. I’m not affiliated, just a happy customer (I was also a bit of a pain, changing the length at the last minute)
I control the blinds through a manual wall switch, and also hooked up a TKB Z-wave roller shutter (equivalent of the Fibaro one, but cheaper), all controlled by Vera and Imperihome as the GUI. Relatively quiet motor, I can automate them (up/down along with my HT controls, and as part of the alarm in the morning). % open/close shows, and I can adjust to the specific % I want
My advice, specially if you’re getting multiple units, try one first. Even if you end up not using them, the $200 cost vs $2k/window might be worth the experiment
Curtains/Drapes typically refer to fabric hanging from a motorized rail that traverses side to side, use a rail with a motor at a far end that hangs vertically.
Blinds/Venetians typically refer to slatted blinds that raise/lower and tilt, uses a small motor for tilt, or for raise, or for larger systems a tubular motor that can raise and tilt.
Shades/Roller Shades refer to fabric with hembar at bottom, rolling up onto a tube with a tubular motor inserted inside.
The picture above is a tubular motor for Roller shades, or very large/heavy Venetian blinds.
FYI for terminology differences in different parts of the world.
