PLUGIN: Caseta Connect

I have been trying to get my Lutron lights to work from vera, my dimmer switches do but not my on/off switches. I have read much of this great thread but I haven’t been able to solve this for hours.

I am running version 1.0.5 but it won’t let me to upgrade. I have tried to manually install new Luup files but it fails to connect. after a few attempts is will stop trying drop back to 1.0.5. I can’t get anything else to connect to the bridge before it goes back to the older version.

Update: I have run “os.execute(“rm -rf /etc/cmh-ludl/CasetaConnect”)” after uninstalling the app and tried to start over from fresh. I am planning to reinstall the app from the store then to load the 1.0.58 Luup files to replace the outdated version that is with the app. When I view the app before downloading it says it was last updated in Jan, is that what I should install?

I really appreciate any help!

I have been having trouble getting new Caseta devices to show up in the Veralite/Connect plugin. I only have one bridge so I cannot select a bridge in Connect to have it reread the config. I had to uninstall/reinstall the app to get the new devices to show up. Is there an easier way?

How much time are you giving them to show up? It is not instantly for me. I usually just walk away and check a couple of hours later and it seems to be ok. Vera may need to reload/reboot or some such thing.

Hey Cybrmage,

When you get time I found a bug/change. I’m trying to install on OpenLuup without using the VeraBridge plugin, and it looks like the OpenLuup code changed on you.

L_CasetaConnect.lua line 1384:

INITversion = self:shellExecute('head -n 3 /etc/cmh-ludl/openLuup/init.lua |grep -e "revisionDate ="')

OpenLuup now responds with VERSION and more than one space before the “=”. I changed it to:

INITversion = self:shellExecute('head -n 3 /etc/cmh-ludl/openLuup/init.lua |grep -e "VERSION"')

Same on line 1386. That got me most of the way through initialization, now I need to get socat installed:

2016-07-07 18:29:45.965   luup_log:1: Caseta_Connect::CASETA::configureBridgeConnection: socat executable not installed.
2016-07-07 18:29:45.975   luup_log:1: (Caseta_Connect::Startup): Could not configure SmartBridge connection.SOCAT package not installed.

Um, waited about a minute or so :slight_smile: . Next time guess I will have to wait a little longer.

One thing I forgot to say in my previous post is thank you for this awesome plugin! My zwave devices kept dying and wanted to move to the Lutron switches and this made it all work together.

I have a Vera Plus running version 1.7.2044. I have a Lutron Caseta SmartBridge 2 (L-BDG2) and had this awesome Vera app working perfectly with my Caseta SmartBridge. I downloaded the developer version of iOS 10 and had issues using the iPhone’s Home app so I reset my SmartBridge. It got the iPhone’s Home app working again but I can’t get Vera Caseta app working again. I have deleted the app, installed it again, created the device and have tried providing my Lutron credentials and not providing them but I keep getting “Status: Failed to load bridge config Version: 1.58”. It has found the bridge and related IP address. I am new to Vera and have read through the 13 pages in this thread but could use some help. Any guidance is greatly appreciated!

I am on 1.0.58 and had the failed to load bridge config a few times. Not sure what happened the first time but the only solution I found was to uninstall the plugin then reinstall. Today had a power outage and when everything came back up the failed to load bridge config came back. I tried rebooting and power off/on with no change. I really do not want to uninstall/reinstall so is there any other way to force the config load? It has been working for a number of weeks before this power outage.

I am running the newest firmware 1.7.2139 and the caseta plugin has stopped working. Has this effected anyone else? Has a solution been found?

Ditto, plugin no longer works since upgrade to latest UI7 firmware on Vera Plus. Reinstalled and still nada.

So I had some strange issues with the plugin in the past, and I could not find a specific reason why. Have you done any of the following?

Recently opened the android or iOS Lutron App for the Caseta Connect device itself.

Tried installing a lower version of the plugin, then upgrading to the most recent.

In the past I have noticed unusual issues occur OR be resolved after opening the Lutron Mobile App. If you are really stuck, it is worth a try to open those apps, then reboot vera and/or try uninstall/reinstalling the Vera Plugin.

Thanks but no dice. Rebooted everything, downgraded/upgraded plugin with and without official app open in 10 different combinations. The plugin discovers the hub but I get an instant “Can’t load bridge config” error. This sucks as almost all my lights and my shades are Caseta. Not sure what else to do…smart bridge pro perhaps and go with the RadioRa plugin…

So this is really weird, when I turn on debug and look at the log following a reboot, I see:

-Plugin finds the bridge
-Plugin loads the config (I see all of my Caseta dimmers and Serena blinds listed)
-Then suddenly fails with the error: Could not load Bridge Configuration…

Any thoughts? Really appreciate any assistance.

There is a new version out apparently. See the first post. I am also now having trouble. not sure what version I am on at this point.

EDIT: Uninstalled plugin, reinstalled latest version, and it works. Thank you!!

Awesome, thanks for the update Cybrmage! Still having issues though…uninstalled old version, installed new one. Plugin successfully created my devices and controls them (but not any manual scenes from the Lutron hub as before). After next restart of lua I constantly get a notification that Startup Lua failed for CasetaConnect and the CasetaConnect device itself gets stuck on Initializing IO and all devices are not controllable.

Any thoughts welcome. Thanks again for the great work.

Thank you very much for the great work!

I just installed the plugin and it worked like a charm; all my devices have been detected.

Curious, If I add a new lutron device in the future, will it be detected automatically?

Hi, I seem to be having an issue I need assistance with.

I am having the “Lutron Caseta SmartB[169] : Startup Lua Failed” error message and none of my devices are working.

I have a vera edge on 1.7.2139 and a Lutron bridge (LBDG-2) the non-pro version; on the latest firmware as well. I have the 1.59 version of the plugin installed from the app store.

This repeatably occurs when I install the plugin, test the devices and then add a device to a scene.

I have attached the log of a startup, but looking at it here is the relevant error at the end:

01 09/20/16 12:26:41.555 LuaInterface::CallFunction_Startup device 169 function Caseta_Startup took 11 seconds <0x769d4520>
01 09/20/16 12:26:41.556 LuaInterface::CallFunction_Startup-1 device 169 function Caseta_Startup failed [string “–Caseta_Connect v1.58…”]:4014: attempt to concatenate a nil value <0x769d4520>
01 09/20/16 12:26:41.556 LuImplementation::StartLua running startup code for 169 I_CasetaConnect.xml failed <0x769d4520>

The interesting note in the log is it says 1.58 even though 1.59 is installed.

Removing the plugin and re-adding it will get it back up and working again until I add it to a scene again. I have done that 3 or 4 times now. The challenge that creates for me is I am running the HA bridge for Echo and each time the plugin is removed and re-added the device id’s change; causing the HA bridge to have to be reconfigured for the new devices.

Any suggestions or assistance would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Has anyone else had the app stop working? I am not getting error messages, just not getting the responding action to occur.

My app is still in the same state as previously mentioned. It works as long as it is not included in a scene.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I’ll have to mess around and see what happens. I noticed an app update for lutron recently, and often times trouble ensues after updating the app.

@cybrmage ~ I was wondering if you could assist me with something tangentially related to your project here. I am working on something similar using the SmartThings hub, however I am having issues with the MQTT server piece. I can get an auth token, and I get the XI data, however the username and password are “”. Any idea as to why that is or suggestions on how to get the right info? Appreciate your time either way! Thanks!
