PLEG Guide with Examples

Hey Guys,

I wanted to say thanks to everyone for all your help teaching me how to get the most out of my little green box; particularly Rex and Richard.

I wanted to offer up my help creating a searchable, consolidated place that would feature a basic tutorial for PLEG as well as a comprehensive list of examples that users can work from.

I have seen forum members patiently assist lots of folks (like me) and it dawned on me (today when Rex pointed out a method that he already showed me) that the community could benefit from such a tool.

Probably like some of you all, I never thought that I could do so much with Vera until I started to learn some of the amazing “Event Generated” logic that can be built. I really like the forum because not only does it help me bring a solution to an idea, but it gives me tons of other’s ideas and solutions to work with.

My thought is that we could come up with a format which would include the following (amongst whatever ideas you and the user community may have):

1: Name for the PLEG
2: an extended description in lay terms
3: a description of each of the triggers, conditions and actions, laid out in a common format (similar to a PLEG Status Report)
4: feature something that the PLEG uses, as sort of a training aid. I could try to get at least one in every example.
5: Date Created
6: Credits

Adding to this wiki of sorts could be done by requests, and from some of the senior members of the forum that have noticed an innovative solution that may interest others.

Would there be serious interest in this?

That’s what I originally had in mind with my website.

I would probably reference an Actual PLEG/PLTS report.
With a write up for all the additional info. So two files per example.
Plus an index/grouping of examples.

The problem is I do not have time to manage it …
And when I moved out of the city … my website is now suffering from limited connectivity. (The pain and joy of living in the countryside).

@ Richard … If you need a site hosted for free. Let me know

We have tons of bandwidth and space.

Not to discourage great ideas like this, but @RexBeckett has put a ton of work into a tutorial and examples.

IMO, he would be a good coordinator for this (if so inclined).

But yes, I could see where a repository of use case specific PLEGs might come in handy.
