Good morning all,
A member for a month or so…still trying to figure out if Vera is going to work for my purposes.
I bought a new “smart” home. Refused to pay the monthly monitoring fee and the installer for the builder refuses to explain the system to me. Here’s what I have:
DSC PC1616 with some kind of 3G cell module installed
DSC C24-CAM54IR camera
Netgear ASG1000 Gateway (router/z-wave controller all in one)
Kwikset z-wave entry door locks
z-wave thermostat
z-wave light dimmer
I haven’t been able to control ANYTHING with the gateway, since the installer won’t explain how to use the system without monitoring. Whatever, the “gateway” they have installed seems to be a closed system with little support.
I’m sure that I can get all the components to work with Vera except the camera…anyone figure that out?
Hi I am very interested in this system as well as my provider installed a pc1832 Dsc system and an it-230. Plus to interface it they use the asg1000. Apparently it uses Icontrol.
The asg1000 has the ability to control your zwave devices and act as a router.

I recommend you dump the ASG1000. That’s what I’m doing. It’s a very closed system, and since I bought the house NEW with the system installed, I needed to sign a monthly contract with the installer in order for him to show me how to use it.
Well I wasn’t interested in a monthly fee…so he never showed me. Now I have a PC1616, the camera, motion sensors and door sensors, a zwave kwikset and a few lights but nothing is controlled.
How did you make out I went with the Evl-3 and the asg1000 I had signed to early. However I will not renew.
I am also going to go with the EVL3. Haven’t pulled the trigger on a Vera or EVL yet. I still have the ASG1000, but I don’t know how to modify any of the settings in it…so I can’t control any of my devices via zwave.
