Panasonic BL-C230A Setup

So I bought Panasonic camera since the MCV site says that is the easiest to setup.
From the wiki: "Method #1: Run the Windows CD that comes with the camera. Once you run Panasonic’s app and tell the camera to get an IP address, then Vera will find it and will integrate the camera automatically and setup will be effortless.

Effortless???

I got the camera running through the Panasonic app (image and controls working), but Vera does not recognize it. I can set it up manually, but then Vera uses the “Generic IP Camera” plug-in and pan/tilt/zoom don’t work. If I manually install the Panasonic plug in, I get no image.

I knew this would be a pain…

Patience is a Virtue?, all I know is that I’ve Five Panasonic camera up and working… Normally when I’ve first established the device (camera) I do not get a picture right away. You need to ensure that you have the correct IP address, admin id and associated password that you established for the camera it might be the default if you did change it. after you’ve establish the device leave for a short period of time and then open via the device to see a picture and ptz controls. Also if you are using a different port on than the default you will have to added in your IP address i.e. 192.168.1.192:8080. I sounds like your able to access your camera via Panasonic app, try access your camera in your browser (use sam IP address), if this works then Vera should be able to access. I’m assuming your vera is connected to your router via wired or wireless? if not then you will not be accessing your camera. Mike

Okay- here is what I have so far:

Both camera and Vera plugged in to Airport Extreme.
Camera sets up fine through laptop connected Wi-Fi to Airport Extreme.
Camera can be viewed via typing IP into browser on any computer in the house.

But- Vera does not see camera.
If I use the wizard, it will not see the camera, but if I click Manual Setup, it will setup but it uses the generic IP camera plugin.
Two cameras then appear under devices, neither of which work.

I also tried installing the Panasonic plugin but that also just creates a non-functioning camera under devices.

I knew this would be frustrating.

Well, as of bedtime, it’s still pretty screwed up.

Vera still does not recognize the camera. I can add the camera manually, but then it downloads the generic Ip camera plugin despite me selecting “Panasonic camera”. When the dashboard reboots, TWO cameras appear. One doesn’t work at all and the other shows an image. On the one that has an image, none of the buttons function. All in all, I’d say it’s working 30%! ???

I am having a similar problem. Where do you set up the ip address and port in the vera set up?

Thanks

Crazy thing. So I’m pretty tech AND Vera saavy and I could not solve this one. I emailed MCV and they ended up logging into my system and getting it working perfectly. They wouldn’t explain how but I think there is a bug.

I made same call, since I could not find a solution on this forum.
Turns out that the latest (and past) vera2 firmware does not support live streaming. Once I learned this, we had to go to the viewnetcam.com site and adjust streaming to be a 3 second delay between photos instead of 30fps refresh. Problem solved. Would prefer streaming but…I will take this result, and my cust supp rep said streaming would be available on next iteration of firmware.

Their customer support team is extremely responsive. Thanks Daniel and MCV

I also have a panasonic BL-C230 and MCV’s Mr Ovidiu accessed my computer through “logmein” and successfully setup the camera with vera2. As soon as I migrated to UI4, vera cannot find the camera anymore. I was told to wait for the latest firmware; firmware came out 2-3 months ago and I upgraded to the latest firmware but to no avail. Right now, i am just contented monitoring my family room and my dog through the website without the use of vera. i just gave up and got tired. hopefully when i buy another camera (definitely not a panasonic anymore), maybe a foscam it will interface with vera smoothly.

Ovidu is the one who set me up through UI4. Ask him again… I think it’s interesting that Panasonic is supposed to be “out of the box” with Vera and clearly this model has to be set up by them. It does work once they do it, though.

If its helpful to anyone I just set mine up and the key things to get it to work was to

  1. install the camera first on your pc using their software. it kicks you to internet explorer, install and allow the ie plugins/activex permissions and windows firewall access (it prompts you for all these, you do not have to look for anything to install)
  2. give it the username/pass vera likes,
  3. go to its setup settings in internet explorer, set the refresh rate to 3 seconds (mine had “MPEG” in the drop down as the default selected rate, it took me a while to figure out 3 seconds is in that drop down)
  4. go back to vera, then the micasa verde marketplace (by clicking the green + in the top right of marketplace box) install the panasonic IP cam vera plugin,
  5. click on the plugin icon once installed in vera. it will attempt to install/find a camera. mine did not find the camera, so I told it to create one
  6. i clicked on the wrench in the top right of the camera that it found/created, I went to the advanced settings tab and put in the ip, mac address, username/pass.
  7. that still didnt pull things up so I went back to the first tab and checked the box that says “auto configure”.

after that I’ve got it working. Though my zoom does not seem to function in vera. Perhaps switching 6 and 7 in my instructions could make things easier.

I have six Panasonic cameras around the house and all are viewable on viewnetcam. None of them are connected to Vera 2 yet… (and after reading these posts, I’m not sure I want them to be!).

My question is once a camera is set up on Vera 2, can it still be seen and controlled by using the viewnetcam service?

If so, do you set the camera up on Vera first, then viewnetcam? Or viewnetcam first, then Vera?

Or do the two services not work together at all?

Short answer is yes. As they are IP camera’s they should work with anything as long as you have the correct IP, Port, User ID and Password. I have 5 camera’s that I view through Blue Iris software on my PC, also use the viewnetcam sometimes, and am able to see them through MiOS both locally and remotely. Mike

I have been using viewnetcam for the last year since i gave up setting the panasonic BL-C230A in vera2. Yesterday, following some of willeffects post on “how to” with some of Valentin Beluga’s email in September of last year, I was able to view the cam in vera2 (finally)

Thanks for the information.

Do I have to use the default username/password or can I use the custom username/passwords that I’ve already programmed in the working cameras? I’ve seen other posts elsewhere that say you must use the default username/password and PORT (80) that Vera 2 is expecting.

When i setup it up with vera2, I changed the username to dceadmin and password to dcepass. after vera accepted it and showed up in mios’ toolbar, I switched back to my private username and password. i can now view the panasonic BL-C230 in vera2 and also in viewnetcam. i did this just 2-3 days ago with the help of this thread. hope this can help you.

I finally got my Panasonic BL-C230A camera working, but I’m only seeing a still image. How do I change the setting to see a moving picture?

Thanks.

Do you have the streaming url setup? Have you tried going to the settings tab of the camera and at the bottom, there is a link for streaming video?

  • Garrett

That worked. The Streaming tab is at the bottom Vera camera Settings page (click on the wrench icon). I clicked the Streaming tab on the Settings page and nothing happened. A broken icon appeared. When I clicked away from the Settings page and went back to the Camera Control tab, the streaming (every 3 seconds) video appeared.

Thanks, Garrett!

I have know clue why MCV put it there. Have but that is fixed in Ui5.

  • Garrett

@garrettwp, you brought it up any ETA on UI5? earlier discussion suggested Oct which by my recollection is now! ;D Mike
