Pairing on battery not working?

I received my vera2 yesterday with a slew of GE z-wave devices (in-wall dimmers, outlets, and lamp modules). The only device I have near my desk is a lamp module which I paired using “Option 1” (wired) and it worked fine. However, when I pair other devices using the battery, the wizard always response with “I don’t see that you’ve added any new devices”.

Here are the steps I have been following:

  1. With vera on network and z-wave light on, I unplug both power and ethernet
  2. I plug in the battery only and wait for the z-wave light to go steady green (note that at this point the ethernet light begins to blink slowly)
  3. I press the z-wave button and the z-wave light blinks slowly
  4. I walk over to my in-wall dimmer and turn on
  5. The z-wave light blinks rapidly then goes back to blinking slowly
  6. I press the z-wave button again - the z-wave goes off, blinks slowly for a while (like 20 seconds), then goes steady green
  7. I unplug the battery, plug in the ethernet and power and wait until the z-wave light goes steady green
  8. I then click on “finish” in the wizard, which churns for a bit and then reports back with no devices

What am I doing wrong? I pulling my hair out here…

Probably low battery.

Try using the AC adapter instead.

I figured out a work around - this is strange behavior, but it works…

After I get the warning about having added no devices, instead of clicking “OK”, I click on the “Dashboard” button. When I do this, I get a “Saving…” message, the a “Server Busy” pop-up. When the dashboard displays, the new device show up! Strange. I just added a in-wall switch and a TRANE thermostat using this method and both times it worked.

Seen this happen during the latest beta.

Also try Ctrl5 to clear your cache, refresh the page and see if after the the screen updates that your device is there.

You may find that the same thing happens with Scenes- you create them, they vanish completely after saving, only to reappear the next time you log in with a new browser session.

I have my browser set to clear its cache every time I close it for this very reason- has eliminated many mysterious disappearances during setup.

You are spot on. My scenes were disappearing when I set the room, etc.
