Oregon scientific rain sensor not updating

I have a Oregon scientific rain sensor. I wanted to reset the total amount of rain, so i put 0 in the advanecd settings for the total amount of rain. It then stopped updating. I deleted the device, hoping that my Rfxtrx will pick it up and recreate it when it sees the data, but that has not happened. How can i get it back ?

Try to reload lua (button Reload in the UI).

I have tried that a few times. Did not work unfortunately.

Check the logs to see if messages relative to this sensor are received by the Vera.
And show me these lines.
If nothing is received by the Vera, it would be more a problem with the sensor or the RFXtrx.

I am not sure i can see it in the log. I think the line in the middle might be it as i have a few like that

most of the ‘decoded’ ones look like this:

I know the sensor is working, as its data is displayed on my weather station monitor. Also it was working fine until i stupidly decided to reset the total rain to 0 in the advanced settings…

That is not logs relative to a rain sensor.

The message at top corresponds to a CM180i.
The decoded message at bottom corresponds to a wind sensor (WGR800).

What you should find for a rain sensor is a message starting by 0B 55 …
And then you should immediately after lines for the decoded message (like the ones you show me for a wind sensor).

I do not think that is in the log but i will have a look tonight. Very strange that it just disappeared. I should not have deleted that device… but normally they just come back.
I had a look what a CM180i is, and that is my Owl energy monitor. Is there a way to get that as a device ?

You do have the “AutoCreate” set to “1” for your RFXtrx device right?

“AutoCreate” is set to “1”, but it is not recreating the rain device nor creating my owl energy monitor. I think i used to have the owl device at some point but i deleted it as it was not showing what i wanted it to. (I am using it to show energy production by my solar panels which i would like to see, and it shows energy consumption but that is not working properly due to clampos not big enough)

OWL CM180 is supported by my plugin; not OWL CM180i. Sorry.

I see two possible reasons:
1 - either the RFXtrx is no more receiving date from your rain sensor
2 - either you have disabled a receiving protocol that was required.

What is the model of your rain sensor ?

You can try to connect your RFXtrx to a PC and check with the application RFXmngr is something is received.

This is what i have:

? WMR180 Weather Station Console
? USB Communication Centre
? Wind Sensor (WGR800)
? Temperature and Humidity Sensor (THGN801)
? Solar Panel (STC800)
? Rain Gauge (PCR800)

I still think it has something to do with me fiddling in advanced settings of the rain device before i deleted it. It would really be quite a coincidence in my opinion of it working fine and then within 1 hour (while 1 changed to advanced settings and then deleted the device) to stop working completely.
I will not have time before the weekend to check the Rfxtrx on my PC, but i will do that.

Shame you do not support the OWL CM180i but i can live without it. And you cannot support everything on the market, i understand

IMHO, it is a coincidence and the link you do with the change of value on a now deleted device is not relevant.

Are you sure that your device is really deleted and not somewhere in a room (or in no-room) ?

Currently, my priorities relative to Vera are on other plugins (Sonos and DLNA).

Unfortunately i pressed the ‘bin’ button… so its gone. I wished we had a undo or undelete… Its not a major disaster as i am not using it in any logic, but it would have been nice to see the rain. One thing points to coincidence, i do not think i did see anything corresponding to the rain sensor in the log. I will have to check the log again, and put the Rfxtrx on the pc and see

I have just seen these settings in my Rfxtrx:

CurrentTRainHourStart 385.1
CurrentTRainDayStart 371.5

i think they have changed as when i deletd my rain device total rain was 371.5

I’m not familiar with oregon sensors but some sensors get a new address when they are reset. Would this be an option for you? The rfxtrx should atleast find it if it gets a new address even if it for some reason remembers the old device. Another option is to try a vera backup from befor you deleted your sensor.

Br,
Tomas

Backup might be a good idea. Never done it but worth looking into. Only thing is i have changed a few things in my PLEGs since, would that be lost ? I have printed out status from my PLEGs, so i could redo the changes if i loose them. Little problem with backup, on my computer i only have a backup from June… I thought there were some on the Mios servers ? But how do i access them ? I cannot find them.

I have found them, just had to click on backup in the menu a few times and all of a sudden they showed up

Are you using my plugin or an unofficial patched version of my plugin ?
Because my plugin is not managing these two variables.

I am quite sure its the original plugin, i cannot remember having it patched. Actually, i might have patched the rain device thinking about it.
I have done a restore, and my rain device is back. Unfortunately with all 0 in total rain daily rain etc., and i am pretty sure at that point it was not updating.

My plugin does not manage a counting of the total rain on a daily basis. But you should find the total rain in the variable CurrentTRain.
