Decided to buy a Vera Edge to run U17 on and not screw up my old Vera running on U15 trying to update it again, what’s the best way to update ? transfer old settings, devices, scenes, etc. over or build new system up from scratch, would like to only do it once but I know that would be a first for Z wave stuff
No recommendations which is the best way to go the Vera Edge came today :)… and the fun starts no mater how I tried to add it to my account it refused to be recognized so had to make a new account ( I had one on both systems already for U15 and U17 ), had to change my email address and change my name to make a new account so theirs probably not much chance of exporting from my old system now, but think I will do it the manual way , that way I can transfer the devices that I don’t mind if it screws up, rather than things that are controlled by scenes like heating etc. that do matter, then when I know I am in control and the Edge is running OK I can add the scenes and heating etc.
Well, to be fair, you didn’t HAVE to make a new account… You could have contacted support and got them to fix the issue.

And to be fair, I should not have to contact support wait a day or two for a reply on a product that has been out as long as the Edge has now, problems with it should have been sorted by now, so I can just plug it in and log into it with my existing account on U17.
I agree.
I’m merely pointing out that you didn’t ‘have to’ do it the way you did, and that there was another path you could have taken that probably would have been a LOT less work, albeit would have required some effort on your part and waiting a little bit.
In fact, you probably could have even got support to migrate everything for you - they have done it for others… And it would have been easier on all fronts.
Agreed!
If you had problems upgrading in the past, and seemed disgruntled about the update before even doing it… It would have been better for you to call VERA and have them do the migration for you. It would have left little room for problems and saved you from being unhappy.
For the record I started from scratch when doing the update as it was a good time for me to organize all my device numbers, and clean up things that I had played with in ui5 that I didn’t want to transfer.
Don’t get me wrong though, I completely agree with the OP that the upgrades really should ‘just work’ without calling support.
