My vera3 is coming this week. Need to order switches but I am lost. Here is what I want to do
If kids turn on a light, I want it to turn off in 20 minutes from when they turned it on.
Shut all.lights off from my bedroom.
Can I have a keypad switch that would show me which lights are on (Ie 1 of the buttons have a red led that shows if garage door is up or another button that lights if kid turns bedroom light on during night time)
I believe insteon can do this but I want to do it with zwave
Switch choices:
Do I need a switch with 2 way communication and instant status to do what I want? If so what it the most economical switch to do so?
Are there any zwave light switches that have scene buttons with LEDs to do what I am looking for.
Sorry for the questions but I searched and searched but can’t find the info I need.
1. If kids turn on a light, I want it to turn off in 20 minutes from when they turned it on.
This is just a countdown timer. You can do it with any switch(Instant Status may be desirable) and a Vera scene. The reliability of the countdown will be better if you use the PLEG plugin.
2. Shut all.lights off from my bedroom.
A simple All Off scene. Most people use them. I have one(Mostly Off) that is triggered at bed time and another that is scheduled at sunrise. The important question is how will you choose to trigger it. You could use a Z-Wave scene controller, a hand held remote, a smartphone app, or even a series of events like; motion sensor, door closure, switch activation... For the latter logic the PLEG plugin or LUA code will bee needed.

I'm less sure about this. You could probably use something like the Leviton VRCS4-M0Z 4-Button Remote Scene Controller for this and it would be a good combination with question 2 above. But, I am not sure how reliable the LED light notification would be. A better choice may be a wall mounted tablet running an app like AutHomationHD or Imperihome.

All Z-Wave switches have 2 way communication. The Instant Status feature may make your scenario in question 1 more responsive, but it wouldn't be an absolute requirement with a 20 minute interval. Right now switches such as the Leviton VRS15-1LZ 15A Scene Capable Switch and the Cooper RF9501AW Aspire Single-Pole Wireless Light Switch switches are the ones with Instant Status. These brands also have similar dimmers that support Instant Status.

The previously linked scene controller fits the description.
