Noob trying to decide on alarm system

Moved into a new house and trying to decide what alarm system to install. I am wanting to get an alarm system I can arm/disarm from smartphone or computer. Would like to save money and add more features such as door locks and lights without having to pay an arm and a leg. I got a quote from ADT the monthly charge is pretty high but the cost of the gear is crazy. Been looking through these forums for the past week. Seems like micasaverde can do more then I would ever need for a reasonable price equipment and I can add on through the years.

Now my question if I go with a monitoring company(Smith Thompson)and have them install one I called they said they use a DSC but the sales man didn’t know model number. Its a wireless system using a cell phone monitoring for 16.95. Would I be able to manipulate the system over internet (arm/disarm/view events) while is still being monitored? This company doesn’t even offer the option to arm over internet. From what I read it seems many people are doing this and DSC seems to play nice with micasaverde.

Any help would be appreciated thanks

Patrick

Yes… It does not matter if it is monitored or not to use it with Vera.

I don’t use the DSC but it is the same idea as My Honeywell Panel.

You need to buy an EVL-3 Home Security Store | The Best Home Security Systems

This will, on it’s own give you a virtual Keypad for your system. (Look at the systems it supports and see what DSC your alarm company is supplying)

Then when you get the EVL-3 working get the vera DSC plugin and you can use Vera to do all the magical things thou want… including using your alarm sensors as triggers etc…

There are A LOT of threads on this subject on the forum.

As jimpapa stated, there are a lot of threads on alarm systems and what to get, etc. I would suggest that you do some digging / reading.
