Hi,
I have a vera lite, and 7 Kwikset zwave locks locks. I keep having problems with only one of them. Its the foyer door lock. I cannot seem to send it new door unlock codes and remove old codes. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I have un-paird and re-paired the lock to the vera lite, and that seems to fix the problem for a few days, but then its back to the non-responding lock. The other 6 locks do not have this problem and have never.
I tried to poll that node and it said its unable to poll the node. Then I tried to configure the node and it says “Unable to get any information on node”. I looked at some other forums and it said to uncheck “Use Vera routing instead of Z-Wave (requires 4.5)”.
What should I do? :-[
Here are the locks:
now the lock is saying “Failed at: Getting secure classes”. Whatever that means…
How many zwave devices do you have? How far is the lock from Vera and the other zwave devices? This is a common question asked on the forum and it mainly leads to distance issues which require adding more zwave nodes close to the lock. You want zwave devices that support beaming. Search the forum for additional information.
I have 7 locks. They are not that far from each other. The Front door lock is the farthest away. The foyer is the 2nd furthest. The front door lock does not have this problem at all, it works just like the other locks. The locks are actually very close to one another, just a few feet down a hall from each other, they are on every room. The foyer door (the door that does not work) is in-between the front door and the lock before the foyer. It should work.

So, anyone know what the issue is here? For the time being, I will un-include then re-include the device to get it to work again, but I know that it will go on the frits within a day or so after. Btw, I searched the forums and its difficult to sift through other people’s problems that are not the exact same as mine. You think you have an answer, but then (3 pages of reading later) you dont. Please help!
And, unrelated, whats up with the stupid riddles to post a reply!? Captia is enough.
I would either move vera closer to the lock or the lock closer to vera for the time being and see if the communication issues still happen or stop. You never said if you have other z-wave devices besides locks. Locks and battery powered devices are very picky and require to have additional z-wave devices for routing. Because the other locks work fine, does not mean the z-wave radio in the problem lock is experiencing distance issues. These types of problems are most likely distance related and adding additional devices near the locks or moving vera closer solves the problem.
As for the captcha it is for anyone new on the forum with less than 25 posts. It is to prevent spam.
I just had the same issue strike me though it happened after I "healed’ the network
I guess I’ll have to reassociate the lock
What if you swap door locks? If the problem is with the location, the problem should happen to the lock you swapped out. If not, you might have a problem with the original lock. Might be worth a try.
Swapping locks is a good idea. Time consuming but good. I dont usually need to program too many codes on my door/lock, and it is the closest lock to my vera lite. But right now, as for distance, the “Foyer Door” lock is closer than the “Front Door” lock by about 3 feet. Seems unlikely that distance is the problem. The only z-wave devices I have are the 7 Locks and the vera lite. Moving the locks will “solve” the temporary problem because I do not add and remove codes my door’s lock often. Lets see if it gets better. I will update this in a few hrs.
Unrelated:
The captia is fine, notmal in fact, its the still riddles under it that seem unnecessary. “Write the 2nd, sixth and last letter of the word ‘bookmark’” Really?, haha. :
You have to understand just because the problem lock is closer than another lock that is functioning fine does not mean it should work. Like I mentioned in my previous post, Locks and battery powered devices are very picky with distance. Z-wave is a mesh network and to make locks and battery powered devices function better, they require additional devices that can route. For locks this would require having another z-wave device that supports the secure class / beaming option. Locks and battery powered devices do not route.
I see…
Well, to report on my current problem, I swapped the 2 locks: My Lock for the Foyer Door lock. It was very easy to do by the way, just had to take the back/battery holder part off and switch them out. The lock that was not responding works good for now (as usual once i re-pair it), so we shall see if it works in a few days. I would like to officially fix this, but it is physically closer to the vera lite, the closest lock now.
The other lock, that is now in the foyer, is accepting new door codes easy, just like it did before and I didn’t need to re-pair it to the very. I just screwed it to the new lock and renamed it from the web control panel. Hopefully this patch fix will solve my problems, at least until I need to add a new code to the faulty lock again. For now, Im good.
