No sound on Foscam F18918w

I have heard mixed stories about the sound on the 918. I hear some people do have sound and some don’t. I am one of those that don’t. I have tried the IE 8 and IP Camviewer full. Is this a camera problem?

Live Cams Pro and Baby Monitor for Foscam support the audio on iOS devices.

Have you enabled the mic and speaker through the cam’s software?
By default it’s disabled.

JOD.

I am pretty sure those programs do that for you without having to manually enable through the web interface. That is how they work for the motion detection and email functionality as it automatically toggles the options in the camera from the screen in the program is you slide the options on/off. I do this all the time. The thing that sucks is that turning off the schedule resets the entire schedule making the function basically useless.

You can use the BlueIris software for both monitoring audio and recording. http://www.ipcam-central.com/BlueIris-Surveillance-Software-full-version-p/blue%20iris.htm

You check the audio in the camera setup and every recording will include audio.

Latest Firmware release supports sound on Firefox, Chrome and Safari, as well as MSN integration.

does anybody know if the license purchase of blue iris ($49.95 for multi-camera) is just one time or you have to renew it periodically.

My understanding is it is one time.

For $49 It’s a great piece of software!! been using it for few years and the developer takes recommendations and actually implements them. I requested the feature for PTZ camera’s to be able to cycle through each position at some duration and whala, earlier this year he implemented the feature. Gets 5 stars IMO. The only draw back is that you need a computer to be up and running to take full benefits. Mike

It is possible to get the sound working with Foscam FI8918W doing it slightly differently to what’s been suggested, but using no additional purchased software at all. Just Firefox ( http://www.GetFirefox.com) and VLC ( http://www.VideoLan.org )

  • Install the Panasonic IP Camera driver from Mios Marketplace (bear in mind a re-install overwrites previous settings)
  • Use Firefox browser (Foscam presents different control interface for Firefox vs IE, clicking the second “login” down)
  • Go into the Real-time IP Camera Monitoring System (Foscam default interface on your IP: 192.168.X.X )
  • Click first on the “if no audio you can download from www.videolan.org” link at bottom of the interface
  • Download and Install VLC for Windows from the link in the camera interface
  • Once installed, let VLC add plugin into your Firefox
  • Return to Firefox root Camera IP Address
  • Click on “audio”
  • It will freeze the pic a few seconds, then return with live video and audio
  • click CloseAudio when you want to terminate the audio
  • use “refresh video” link if you want to update video

This is a bit different that what has already been presented, but it also works a bit differently, too… i.e. it works.

thanks. i did all what you said and i can hear the music that i played near the camera. but i think there’s something wrong with my foscam 8918 setup because i can hear a loud/annoying static sound even if i used “LiveCamsPro”. i emailed LiveCamsPro but only got a vague answer. any thoughts?

Hi,

i think there's something wrong with my foscam 8918 setup because i can hear a loud/annoying static sound even if i used "LiveCamsPro".

Yes, unfortunately I have found that to be the case too . . . always that annoying “static” present. We’ve just rather come to expect it as part of the “features” of this free fix and haven’t yet pursued a solution.

But you’re right: it is annoying and one would think it could be avoided.
