I would like to add a zwave light switch to the existing light switches. One area has a 3 way switch and the other is a two way switch.
Kids are constantely leaving the lights on up stairs hallways this would be nice to turn them off on my phone as I leave with out having to go up stairs.
Can I add just one GE 45610WB Z-Wave Add On Auxiliary Switch in line with the 3-way (hall light) and or 2 -way (stairway light). They are not dimming switches just normal switches which I would like to keep the same. What needs to be added? I want to make sure I buy the right stuff the first time.
I am assuming once one of these z-waves switches on in place that should do it or not???
The GE/Jasco 45614 3-Way Switch Kit includes one [url=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0035YRCR2/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0035YRCR2&linkCode=as2&tag=zwavec-20]GE/Jasco 45609 On/Off Switch/url and one [url=http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0080G4OJO/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0080G4OJO&linkCode=as2&tag=zwavec-20]GE/Jasco 45610WB Auxiliary Switch/url.
The main switch is used to control the load(light) either via manually pressing the switch’s paddle or via wireless Z-Wave commands. The main switch can be used by itself in a circuit with a light(2-way). It can also be used in combination with a 45610 remote for 3-way style circuits. These two switches can only be combined with each other. They cannot be combined with any other switch, with the exception of wireless Z-Wave controller switches such as the Evolve LTM-5 Accessory Switch which can serve as remotes for the 45609 main switch. The 45610 remote switch cannot operate by itself or with any other switch besides the 45610 main switch. The 45610 remote does not control a load, it controls the 45609 main, which in turn controls a load.
Naturally, you will also need a Z-Wave controller such as a Vera Lite to control the switches and enable remote access.
Edit: To Z-Wave enable your 3-way hallway(two switches for one set of lights), you would replace both existing standard switches with a 45614 kit. Also, be aware that the traveler wiring is different(non-standard) with these GE/Jasco switches from that of a standard 3-way switch so you will need to read and follow the instructions.
Gotcha so. I would replace two of the three switches with the GE45614 Kit. What makes of the 3rd switch at the end of my hallway that one is ok to stay as it exists and will work just fine.
If you mean that you have circuit with a light(s) that is controlled by 3 different switches, that is a 4-way circuit.
In the case of a 4-way circuit you would need to use the 45614 kit and an additional 45610 remote or a Z-Wave controller(3 switches total). You cannot use a standard switch in the same circuit with a 45609 main switch.

Looking at different prices just wondering what the low end versus the higher end. I know Leviton makes some among others. Is the Jasco GE the most commonly used ones? Any recommendations on the cheapest place I have found some real good prices that some carry that are out of stock, ebay of course among others.
Research Instant Status. It is a feature that may or may not be important to you, one that Leviton has and GE/Jasco or Evolve do not.
So far as I have seen in the U.S. the GE/Jasco are the least expensive switches that are still in production. I provided links to Amazon, which is a great source. Lowe’s sells a 45614 kit under a different part number(45638) that has been a little cheaper in the past. They have gone up 30% in my area, though.

How do i know where the main switch is?
This is covered in the manual for the switches. The main switch needs to be wired to power(line) and the load(light). Usually it goes in the wall gang box that has the load wire.
Many others have found the manual confusing so if it confuses you, search these forums for lots of posts on how to do it. If you’re still confused, spend $75 and have an electrician do it correctly the first time.
